Cause of Tinnitus
loud music
Hey Guys,
I went to see a private ENT and he basically said that reason for my Tinnitus is because I have ETD.
He put me on some nasal steroids but they didn't work. He then suggested to put a grommet in my ear to equalise the pressure and clear out anything thats blocking it. (He also suggested that i have a deviated septum and he will need to shave cartilage inside my nose - but i'm going to avoid that if i have to)

I went to get a second opinion and the second ENT specialist basically disagreed with absolutely everything the first ENT specialist said. Saying that i don't have ETD and I have to just deal with my tinnitus [mainly because my hearing test showed some damage to my hearing - loud music etc, however I always had minor tinnitus but not as loud as it is right now, I noticed my tinnitus got 99% louder after a holiday to Spain, some flights and a lot of driving up high altitude mountains.]

The initial ETD diagnosis was based on doctor investigating my ears with otoscope where he asked me to do a ear popping maneuver
I can also feel like sometimes my ears are blocked and/or don't pop properly
I can hear crackling sounds with my move my jaw
I also have some hyperacusis, where some sounds feel incredibly loud
Sometimes very minor vertigo

So i'm not sure if i have ETD or not? or dont know what to do.
Has anyone got a grommet in their ear before? did it help with the tinnitus ?

If you have been listening to music through headphones regularly or going to places where loud music is played regularly? Then it is loud sound that is the cause of your tinnitus. Exposure to loud noise is the most common cause of tinnitus. Typically, it is listening to music through headphones at loud volume or going to places where loud music is played. I think you should politely demand for more tests not just that hearing test and otoscopic inspection.

Thanks Arthur. Is there anything besides Tympanometry Test that shows signs of ETD ?

Michael, it was listening to loud music. And as I mentioned. It was quite minor. Only increased post holiday.

Try a antihistamine to reduce mucous because while your a sleep mucous can cause post nasil drip going down your throat and in to your eustation tubes.
An extra pillow can help also.
Love glynis
