Tinnitus Since
Unkown.
Cause of Tinnitus
ear infection / unkown.
Hi fellow T sufferers,

I just wanted to introduce myself and write my story how i got tinnitus and how it got worse and i am curious if maybe people have the same experience or symptoms i have and maybe have tips or even a solution to this annoying condition :)

My name is Mike , i am 25 years old and i live in the small nation called The Netherlands.

I cant exactly pin point the date on which my T started, but it started around 5 years ago, before going to bed i started hearing a small ringing noise inside my head.
However after a good night sleep it was gone the next morning, so i didnt think anything of it yet, i was very naive and i tought it was just the lack of sleep that caused it.

Anyway a few weeks later i noticed it didnt go away anymore so i was getting worried. i learned i got tinnitus.
This kind of freaked me out and i was scared it would never go away, so like many here before i went to the doc , got my ears checked and told me i just had to live with it. I was dissapointed with the anser but i accepted it and i did live with it for the years to come. It was that loud yet the sound and i had no problem sleeping because of it luckly.

But... this all would change... now a few years later and approximetly 6 months ago i was having a real bad flu , which i got from my girlfrield. So no problem i thought to myself i just had to lay in bed and eveything would be fine.

How dead wrong i was. The flu went away eventually but i started getting a ear ache in both ears but especially on my left one (where i also have Tinnitus). so i laid down in bed the doc gave me some antibiotics and i was once more in bed.

During the night my T really went loud all of a sudden. Like a 50 % increase in a high frequency tone which sounded like those old box TVs that didnt had signal.

This really scared me and made relaxing and fighting the ear infection more difficult. Eventually the infection went away and the T wasnt so loud anymore. It was now still on the manageble level before the ear infection.

I was really happy and thanked God it was over. there was still a crackling sound when swallowing and sporadic ear pain. but the doc told me this would go away in a couple of months.

So a few weeks forward i was having a birthday party and i drank quite alot of beer. And the next morning i woke up and the T was back 50 % increase like during the infection. Again i immediatly called the doc , he looked down my ears and said there was no sign of infection so he couldnt help me so i wanted him to send me to a ENT or a ear doc as wel call them here. So i went to the hospital , waited for like an hour and got a hearing test and after that i was allowed to see the ENT docter. He told me my hearing test was near perfect. So i told him about the T and he just stared at me and told me to live with it. I was frustrated by the anser and went home. I still have the T now when typing this story. Sometimes its a bit worse then other times but it still way louder than before.

This are the following symptoms i have currently

All Chronic.

Tinnitus.
Crackling ears when swallowing
Sporadic and random ear pain in both ears.
Sometimes itchy ears.
A cold numb feeling in both ears like water is flowing tru or its like a equalyptus or menthol feeling.
Sometimes i have reflux and i also feel discomfort in my ears and during a sneeze my T is usually worse for a few minutes.

Most symptons are worse in me left ( Tinnitus) Ear.

I also have a stuffy nose alot when waking up since i had the cold.

So yeah this is my T story, I am sorry for the slight long read and grammar mistakes but just wanted to share my story for others and i am curious if anyone has the same experience i have had and maybe we could share some tips or tricks to help cope with these problems ;)

Best regards,

Mike

I would say while you have a stuffy nose or sinus problems, to avoid all antibiotics, aspirin, motrin, allergy meds or any meds as your ear cells may be in a weakened state and susceptible even mild ototoxic chemicals, salicylates, alcohol ect

Welcome to the forum,

lots of good people here that want to help out. Hang in there, things will be ok :)

I would say while you have a stuffy nose or sinus problems, to avoid all antibiotics, aspirin, motrin, allergy meds or any meds as your ear cells may be in a weakened state and susceptible even mild ototoxic chemicals, salicylates, alcohol ect

I only took the anti biotics for the ear infection, it worked and the T got less louder then. But i still have symptomes from the infection like random ear pain and crackling funny noises when moving my jaw or swallowing. Could it be possible that there is still fluid in my ear or inflammation? My doctor only looks inside my ear from the outside.

It just feels that cold and infection never healed properly and the doctors think i complain to much because there is nothing they can do. They told it to me like this, so yeah then you begin to doctor yourself…

I usually try to abstain from alcohol now because that seemed to be the reason after that wild drinking night to have increased the T. Most of the time i take alcohol free beer now ;)

I think @Dginobile has been taking tumeric and omega3 and that seems to have helped her inflamation and T, but it spikes my T, so tumeric may be a way of reducing your sinus condition and inflamation. However tumeric is a salicylate and if it doesn't seem to spike your T after several hours, then it may have a natural medicinal benefit.

Hi Mike,
I'm from Belgium and your story and symptoms sound SO similar.

My doctor also couldn't see anything abnormal in my ears, but when he looked into my left ear did hurt a bit and he prescribed me antibiotics and before I knew it my tinnitus went crazy.

The itchy ears, little cracks, ear pain...

I'm just wondering, can you manipulate your tinnitus?
When I yawn f.e. my tinnitus is much louder, also when i turn my head to the right or move my chin forward and when i pull my headskin forward, like when i dry my hair with a towel.

I also quit alcohol because it worsens symptoms at night, I get whooshing pulsating sounds.

But the worst part is a have hyperacusis too.

How are you doing these days?
