So I'm volunteering at an engineering summer camp (for kids) and our stupid instructor decided to hammer sheet metal with all his might, maybe 5 meters away from me.

I was helping someone so I couldn't plug my ears and I heard it for 20 to 25 seconds without protection. Then I inserted my 33 db foam plugs.

It's been 6 hours now and my hearing is muffled and everything sounds quieter.

Anyway, how loud can hammering sheet metal get? Surely not as loud as a firearm, perhaps 120 db max?

The fact that our instructor did this in front of 30 kids, who were wincing and complaining, is downright fucking unprofessional and despicable.

What can I do, write a complaint? Don't want to get another acoustic trauma like I did 1 year ago, where I couldn't hear shit for a good 2 months.

If I don't recover tomorrow I will do so. But at the same time I don't want to sound like a little bitch who whines about trivial things. I do think his hammer constitutes hazardous sound tho, especially how he continued hammering intermittently for 1 hours.

Next time run the other way. Seriously. No justifications. In my experience, there will be a next time. One must be prepared to do what is necessary to protect or flee.
I carry Peltor muffs with me everywhere I go. I am worried about a fire alarm being triggered, among other things. It is a hassle, but I believe it is worth it.

Received my X5A and they're great. You mentioned you carry muffs everywhere you go, but how do you transport them? I wanna bring mine to my volunteering.

I believe Bill carries them in this bag ...

i use a thick black oil-based marker to paint over the white line so it looks more like headphones but yes those are huge

do not look into a mirror ...

You can get something like this to carry them in.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01J...+ear+muffs&dpPl=1&dpID=410hfcvMXdL&ref=plSrch
There are many different cases of this nature on Amazon (from my experience EVA foam has a strong smell at first but eventually it goes away). Also you could get a tool bag from Home Depot or something...then people will think you're cool cuz you are a tough handyman guy who has tools. But we on this forum will know that you actually are cool and tough cuz if you's dealing with tinnitus then you got some inner strength.

A few ideas to carry those muffs without a bag

Buy foldable ones from Howard Leigh. The thin ones.
Also run away from a situation if the noise is too loud or plug your ears.
Never care to look like "a fool".

I have all sort of foldables and also used those in the military because you can carry in pockets - we did double up with foam plugs for shooting exercises and such - BUT they do not provide such a good noise protection, perhaps 20db - compared to the x5a it's a huge difference so if I am making the effort to wear muffs then those should provide the best protection available - I can control what/how I carry stuff it's not the Army anymore - or else I would just stick with plugs

- 25 dB is more than enough for most circumstances.. And you can also double up with earplugs. The gain from walking around with those huge ones is very little.

K, I'll look around. Maybe a drone case would work too. Probably should've went with the X3A or X4A lol.
