- microsuction ear wax removal
I had microsuction done at an ENT's office, and I still cannot figure out why. I went to the doctor about a gelatinous cyst near the first fold of my ear, not deep inside or for wax removal. The doctor glanced into my ear, said, "You have earwax," and immediately pulled out a suction device. I may have made a mistake by not refusing, but it is difficult to speak up in the moment when a "professional" is taking charge. I have no idea what he saw in my ear or whether it was even significant. I specifically told him the cyst was near the surface.
For context, I apply mineral oil nightly because I wear sleep plugs. Perhaps the wax was minimal or loose, and he used too much suction power. The procedure was extremely noisy as well.
That evening, while I was lying in bed, my right ear, which has a narrower canal, started ringing with a high-pitched "eeee." My left ear was unaffected. This was the fifth time I had earwax removed, but in the past, it was always to make custom earplugs. This time felt entirely unnecessary.
On two prior occasions, I experienced mild tinnitus for about a week at most. Once it happened after curettage, and another time after using a syringe. On two other occasions, I had no tinnitus, once with a water rinse and once with suction, but those procedures were done gently with pre-moistening. This time, however, the ENT was clearly aggressive and inattentive.
Given all this, it is not surprising that the tinnitus has lasted much longer this time. It has been three weeks so far. It comes and goes, but it is starting to interfere with my sleep and is causing a lot of anxiety. I often notice it while walking outside or sitting at my computer. It sounds like whining or rustling and happens intermittently.
After finishing the procedure, the ENT casually said, "Well, I cannot see the cyst." Ironically, my regular doctor found it a week later after I explained where to look. She actually listened to me and followed my instructions. The ENT's arrogance and autopilot behavior left me regretting my decision to go there, but it is already done.
Has anyone else experienced a prolonged recovery from tinnitus after a similar situation?
This version is structured for better clarity and flow, with improved grammar and punctuation while avoiding the use of hyphens. Let me know if there is anything else you would like adjusted.
