My hyperacusis and chronic intrusive tinnitus started with a sudden hearing loss in left ear. I had tinnitus for many years prior but nothing like this. The hyperacusis the first time lasted 4 months and died down last July.
Today I wake up and it started in on me and was full blown with a couple hours. There was precursors as my tinnitus (I have 2 tones) had cycles of 2 bad days to 1 decent day. Past few weeks it went to 3 or 4 bad days to 1 decent day. My hearing feels a little muffled left side, with pressure coming and going in both with the constant ringing of tinnitus.
14 months of this tinnitus is wearing me down but sometimes I'm OK , it's a emotional rollercoaster . I thought I was habituating but it only took 1 relapse of H to send me back to darker thoughts. I find sitting in silence and reading more relaxing to the ears when hyperacusis rears it's ugly head. I'm just venting. I believe it will pass like last time.
My tinnitus has spikes that can last 2 to 3 weeks. That's what I'm hoping for... just a spike.
Does anybody else have hyperacusis spikes?
