I was listening to loud music for 40 minutes. My tinnitus is so loud now. Is there anything I can do?

I want to kill myself and probably will!

It should settle but you could ask your doctor for a few diazepam or prednisalone.
If you feel suisidal then please ring Mental Health or go to AnE .
Love glynis

It just happened. I am unsure how you can claim it is a permanent spike. How many permanent spikes have you had in the past few months?

I must be confusing you with another member, I thought I recently read your comment in a chat that you no longer hear your tinnitus.

Take a deep breath and consider how loud it is now versus a few days ago, a week ago, etc. Sometimes when I think it is louder, I calm down and realize it is really not louder than it was before.

Look @Apocalypse77, you are given lots of advices here. Being worried of flying is understandable and you wouldnt go without earmuffs. You got them and trip went well - thats great!

But then you don't protect yourself in other places? Earplugs are easy to carry and dont draw attention like ear muffs. Why don't you carry plugs with you in your pocket for unpredictable situations like school? You had a spike from a roman church performance, moving houses etc. By now you should know that life will throw unpredictable situations on you and sometimes there is nothing you can do, but if you notice it's too loud, put your plugs in. They cost almost nothing.

If you are stuck at a school rally or watching a loud movie in class. You have options. Get up and leave. If ear protection is not available then exiting is the answer. You are trained to think you must do what your authorities (teachers) tell you to do. Well if your survival and well being (tinnitus) conflicts with what you are being told then protect your well being first.

Get up out of that rally and go straight to guidance counselor, nurse, principal, whoever is responsible to listening to student problems. Get help. Better yet. Do it now.

What has happened..has happened. In my 30 years of experience, I have never seen a permanent spike. A spike technically raises your baseline tinnitus to a new level and possibly new tones for a few hours to maybe days...very rare, (but it could happen) weeks.

If your tinnitus was truly affected and damage was done, then your baseline could become a new one, with new and constant louder/permanent ringing.

Calm down and stop scaring yourself like this and rattling your nerves and ramping up your stress/anxiety. By just stressing yourself out, you are going to have louder brutal spikes. You been on this site for a while and we always say, that loud noise should be avoided...especially via headphones...

What is done, is done, move forward and learn from your mistakes, I am still learning after 30 years. Things shall be ok, and we are always here t support you and others that suffer :)

I read a few posts where people actually suggested that purposefully exposing yourself to loud noises will eliminate your tinnitus. The idea being that whatever "half damaged" hair cells or nerve fibers that were causing the tinnitus would be eliminated. That is totally absurd! That's like kicking out the windshield on your car because you got a small crack in it and it gets in your field of vision.

People have had their auditory nerve cut and still not got rid of the tinnitus.

Please people, stop harming yourself! It will only make the suffering worse.

It is sometimes easier said than than. We are sometimes unwillingly and unknowingly exposed to loud noises. We can only do our best to avoid these situations. But intentionally exposing yourself to loud music will not help.

I'm exposed to 120db everyday, but I wear protection. And I get daily spikes because of it, sometimes it takes longer to go back down, but it does. I've been doing this for a year now and it's gone back down. Always carry plugs with you just in case.

I went to a football luncheon didn't realize how loud it would, also my T was not noise exposure, I sat toward the back, but then the band played behind me, wonderful my T spike lasted two days, but then went down to base. Yours will go back down, believe it will.

I NEVER LEARN AND UT IS TOO LATE NOW FUCK

Not too late. You are still alive and you still have tinnitus. Maybe your T lowers or maybe it is permanent. Regardless you still cannot do things others can and you still need to protect yourself from spikes. Go to your guidance counselor and talk things out.

Listening on the ipod? More info please. You need wear earplugs when you are at loud venues.

Hey, I see from some of your more recent posts that you went to and enjoyed seeing the new Star Wars movie.

Maybe follow up on your old thread here where you basically insinuated that you were going to kill yourself because you were convinced you had done some permanent further damage?
