I Hear Sounds Like "Air Escaping from a Balloon" When I Move My Head/Neck Side to Side?

Cause of Tinnitus
Loud music
I don't have any neck/cervical spine problems or experiencing any pain. However, since the onset of my tinnitus, which is a high pitch tone/hiss, I started hearing a weird sound in my ears when I turn my head side to side. It sounds like a lot of air is escaping from a tiny hole or something. The sound has a rushing start, then it tapers off.

Here's a video I found on YouTube that sounds very similar to what I am hearing:

Whenever I turn my head I feel "air leaking" under my ear and hear the sound like in the video above, if I cover my ears and turn my head/neck the sound will be much more loud and audible. I can modulate the sound (volume and pitch) by how far I am turning my neck or rotating my head, it never stops until I turn back my head to normal position. I am wondering what could be this? Am I hearing fluids in my neck or is it pinched nerves or what?

I have been to an ENT and a GP, also had neck massages. Nothing helped. I searched over the internet but I can't seem to find anything helpful or anybody experiencing the same. What are your thoughts on this guys? I would appreciate any help :)

Hi.
Hope your doing well this evening.
When you crank your neck- you increase the blood pressure thru your ears.
Even before I had tinnitus I could create the "Balloon effect".
But now it just temporarily increases the level of my tinnitus.
I have it severe- I can't even open my jaw wide to chew without a very irritating increase.
The mornings are tough because I have neck injuries and I need to crank my neck in all kinds of strange ways to loosen up the kinks.

But anyway- yeah it's irritating and kind of frightening- and fairly common.
So there's nothing dangerous going on-
your not on the verge of an aneurism or anything like.
Even though it seems like your gonna blow a gasket.

Best wishes- take care and have a good one.

Thank you for the reply, I was only hoping that my tinnitus could be related to this neck problem. I still couldn't accept that I've damaged my ears forever :(

However I don't think that the noise I am hearing is normal and I don't think that I ever had this before. I used to do neck stretches before my tinnitus onset and I never heard anything. I want to say that I hear this "balloon effect" mainly on my left ear, which happens to be my good ear. I feel some "stiffness" under my left ear and my tinnitus gets so much louder when I turn my head to the right side. I don't have any pain or discomfort in my neck though.

Hope you have a good day :)

Today I did a lot of cardio exercises and my tinnitus was reacting crazy. every body movement that include neck movements even by little will make me hear new sounds! I was hearing bells, the "balloon effect", roaring, some fridge noise, buzzing. I only figure out that I can make all these sounds as I was doing many exercises/stretches to my back/neck, it is amazing how many sounds I can pull out from my neck!

When I hear these sounds my neck feel kinda stiff under my left ear, if I place my finger on my neck I feel my heartbeat. I was also feeling some dizziness while doing some exercises. Is this vertigo?

Strangely enough my tinnitus moved from my brain to my ears after exercising, now the sound feels very audible and it is not on my head or on the sides of my head anymore. It is 100% on my ears. Feels like if I am having a speaker playing the tinnitus. I can also modulate it a bit with pulling my earlobe or pinching my tragus.

Does anybody has an explanation for this? I feel the sound is objective and not subjective if that makes sense. Can my neck be the reason for my tinnitus and not the headphones I was using?

Please help, I am lost. No doctor seems to help...

I'm not sure I am following what you describe, but from what I can discern it sounds like what I have = Pulsatile Tinnitus.
Mine is caused by an unuusally wide opening, the jugular foramen, in my skull where the jugular vein goes through, which happens to be very close to the inner ear. It causes, by the time you reach your 20 or 30's, my doc says, the vein there to widen as well since it has the space, and it causes you to be able to hear your own blood pressure. My understanding is some folks would describe it a bit differently, so perhaps it is so with you.
The doctor proved it to me by pressing two fingers against my jugular on my neck and Voila! the terrible noise stopped while the pressure reduced the velocity and volume of the blood passing through that foramen.
Unfortunately, nothing can be done about it. It is maddening. Mine worsens when I drink, or during certain high blood pressure activities, suddenly standing....
