Cause of Tinnitus
Sinus infection
So I've had tinnitus for about 16 days. It first started due to a sinus infection, but even after that cleared up there was still something ringing. I finally found the answer.

Last night I did not take ANY antihistamine or ANY prednisone and my ringing got worse. Took prednisone and and antihistamine and it's almost all the way gone. What I'm thinking is the sinus infection hurt and inflamed my ears enough for allergies to come in and keep the ears inflamed even with the infection gone. I'm crying tears of joy because I finally realized this won't be permanent. Just damn allergies :(

Hi Lelouch, it is strange I saw your article. I am glad you got something to help you.
It is strange when I had the flu and got allergy pill for the flu. Well, My tinnitus started and thought it was the pill claritin, however you spell that pill, I thought that I had allergy to that pain pill. Claritin does cause tinnitus, it is on the drug list.
p.s. I am telling the truth.

How are you doing now? I also got prescribed allergy pills but i'm afraid it will make my Tinnitus worse

Its the quietest its been since it started 3 weeks ago. Im also using a steroid nasal spray because I think I have ETD. I do not think an antihistamine would make yours worse. If you have allergies, then its worth a shot. But if you're worried, ask your doctor.

Another update: Its almost gone, there just a fluctutating quiet mosquito ring in the right ear. I'm pretty sure I've been having a eustacian tube dysfunction because the steroid spray is starting to finally kick in after almost 2 weeks, and because the ringing fluctuates so wildly, as well as intermittent pain in ears coupled with what feels like fluid draining out of them.

Ooooo, sometimes I hear a mosquito noise too! It seriously sounds like there's a bug in my ear. I know my hearing is not getting better, but I'm hopeful that maybe the sound is just my auditory nerve calming down.

Lelouch, how are you doing?

I am currently going through a similar situation. Started with an ear infection which was likely due to a blocked E tube. I have seasonal allergies and it is that time of year so I am confident this is the cause! Its been 1 month now since it all began, and I feel like I am slowly improving. I have been taking Allegra D for the allergies and a nasal spray to help dry things up in there and reduce the fluid. I have also been doing steam treatment in the evening to help clean things up. Anyway, my tinnitus is lingering, yesterday was pretty quiet but today seems to be a bit higher. How did your symptoms diminish? Slowly or quickly. Curious to know the steroid spray you used....

Thanks!
