Cause of Tinnitus
listening to loud msuic on bus it finally caught up with me
I am new here so I have had tinnitus for a month now it is driving me crazy! It started the day after I went up to a ghost town called Kelly it was dead quite so it couldn't have been there. I have gone to two doctors seen an Ent and his nurse practitioner please help. I am 18 years old and am going to college I just want it to be bearable again please help! The worst part is not only can no one really help but in my left ear all of a sudden it sounds like a record player skipping over and over and over again!

Welcome to the forum. When tinnitus is new or at a new irritating level, and the ringing is causing much anxiety and panic, it is advisable to get masking going so you won't be so anxious and fearful. Stress and anxiety are toxic to T. So try masking if you haven't done so. I used to mask all day just to prevent panic attacks from hearing my ultra high pitch loud dog whistle T. Try these if you haven't yet:

1) Mask at bed time so you can sleep better. Find whatever sounds/music that are soothing to you. You can use a sound machine or sound pillow for this, or a computer with speakers.

2) If you need masking on the go, try load an ipod with nature sounds or music using itune. If you have a smart phone, you can download free APPs for soothing or T-masking sounds.

3) If you have computer and speakers, you can try these excellent masking sounds too:

TT's audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

or this online sound library, particularly the self-mix nature sounds: http://mynoise.net/

or download free sound generator 'aire freshener': http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'rain sound' etc.

Welcome to Tinnitus Talk @Emz96 .
You have had great information off @billie48.
When you go college let the head of year or tutour know you have tinnitus and get any extra support or sturdy time and exam time needed as your concentration can be affected with tinnitus and be aloud to take a break if need too...good luck with college ...lots of love glynis

Don't know of any supplements that help although we all probably take some. Sleep is really important . use masking at night so you can sleep. Melatonin might also help. If you sleep you will be able to get through the days better. In time you will improve. Good luck in college. Be proud of yourself for going!!!!

Hey,

There are a few of us at university on this forum. You are going to be okay, I have loud tinnitus and am going back to uni in 3 weeks.

The most important thing for you is to look after your mental health, keep your stress low and try to habituate. You WILL BE fine :).

Also make sure to protect your ears at parties and clubs, foam ear plugs are best, but you can use etymonic earplugs for normal house parties/ bars.

Learn how to fit the foam earplugs properly watch a few videos.

I had these symptoms before I was diagnosed with otosclerosis. It felt like fluid in my ears, but docs would always tell me there's nothing there.

Any supplements that you could give me that will help relieve tinnitus?

Hi EMZ96
I just saw another ENT a nice one and the that cares. I have T pretty badly ! How bad? example... don't do this but it you put on earbuds and raise the audio level on your smartphone with music at 3/4 volume I STILL HEAR IT that's how bad I have it.
I don't want to see you suffer while in school The doctor prescribed me an over the counter called Lipo-Flavonoid plus
read the directions "Consult a doctor" and use it. it's been a week and I AM So happy ! it had lessen it dramatically I have relief ! I tried Gingko and it did not help but this did Look into !

DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY Sound Therapy you are hurting your ears !
I went on a diet also excluding Sodium Salt Sugar

Both of my ears it feels like there is liquid in them and when I open them up they just close again all four people I have gone to told me I don't have any in my ears what does that mean?

Your ears I keep opening them up but they keep closing and I feel like NOW I shouldn't open them. Up but I DEFINITELY feel liquid but there is absolutely none!

Still have the liquid in my ears. Have you ever cleaned your ears so bad that the clear stuff comes out and dries up? That's what I have but not as bad and I start college in three days help!

How would you know if you had it? I was reading and on Google it said that otosclerosis was rare. It isn't alot of clear liquid AT ALL its just on the inside of my ear canal

Yes it's rare indeed, but sometimes you get rare diseases (ask me how I know).
It wouldn't be my first suspect for you. Do a hearing test and a Rinne (fork) test. You'll have a better idea then.

I have had both done and I can hear the rinne just fine I'm just worried about the clear liquid.

The Rinne test isn't about hearing fine, it's about finding out if your bone conduction is better than your air conduction.
Can you share your audiogram?

@Emz96: Have you asked your doctors specifically about Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD)? That's when your tubes, which lead into your middle ear and help you equalize pressure on planes (along with other stuff) can't open and close naturally. It makes you feel like your ears are stopped up. It's fairly common. And it can aggravate tinnitus. It also can signal that you have a sinus infection or some kind of inflammation in that part of your auditory system.

They can test for this. Surprised your docs didn't ask you about it.

No I believe they said that I didn't have it

Can biotin worsen your tinnitus if you take it? Because this pill I read can help your hair grow your nails and help you lose weight so I was wondering if it could help your tinnitus too I need an answer ASAP!

I am goingto my very first Concert and I am terrified. Because of my tinnitus. What should I do? Should I NOT be scared of.

as it is so new to you , i dont belive you should go... it might make your t worst or spike it and as you are not yet ''used to it'', your mental health might declain...
But if you decide to go, stay away from speakers and do your best to protect your ears :)
Good luck to you and have a good day
