Tinnitus Since
2012, H 2016, 12/2018(?)
Cause of Tinnitus
loud noises, ringing came back 12/2018 after 1year of silent
Just wanted to let ya know It Can Get Better.

Had an ear trauma or something when I was 19. Was at a loud music festival and was at 100-120 (?) dB for 6 hours straight one day. Then the tinnitus started etc etc.

Weird thing was my tinnitus was like the opposite of what was to come years later.. Initially my tinnitus would blast in the silence, so if I was listening to music I "would not be as annoyed by it" when compared to how annoyed and all I was about it in the silence. So say if I was listening to a drum beat, my tinnitus would be silence during the drum sounds but on every silent moment my tinnitus would scream.

So years later (2 or 3 years ago?) I developed hyperacusis, dunno why (honest). Was In Da Hell for a long long time, had bad ear pain and could not do anything.. couldn't attend classes, grocery shopping was a nightmare, couldn't converse with my grandma (who has a loud voice because of the hearing problems).

Ye and developed the kinda tinnitus (distortion, reactive tinnitus) that would scream ON the drum hits, but be silent when I was in the silence. But it had to be like a "complete silence" and there was many places that were silent. My tinnitus would react to computer fans and fridge/freezer sounds and all. Even wind blowing would start the tinnitus....

Had Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome too where my ear would just quiver all day all night, was in a bad place, TTTS sucks as do all the ear problems.

But it all went away last year during the spring or summer. After that there have been like 3 times I've been annoyed by my tinnitus. I don't wear earplugs no more, can enjoy grocery shopping, listen to music, converse with a grandma... the ordeal went away even tho I was Hopeless.

Ye I still have the kinda tinnitus that is like a high pitch ringing, but it's not too high pitch that it would bother me and I am not annoyed by it. Now I understand that people who acted like "it's not a big deal I've got ringing too, just get over it", I think I have the same kinda tinnitus as they do, and those people dunno what people with a loud tinnitus or hyperacusis/ear pain are going through, those people think they know but they don't really know about The Hell at all...

So it can go away. I have been shocked sometimes (I dunno how many) with LOUD voices, feedback shrieking because of amplifier/speakers/microphone starting it, loud cars etc but my tinnitus is "gone" for me. Haven't even visited this forum as much as I did for years, was here everyday and read every new thread and all... I think people who are not active on this forum anymore are either 1) HEALED, or 2) in a even worse place......

PS. My ear problems were not healed because "I would not be as anxiety-ridden as I used to be", I am still the same, but because of different problems lol. So my tinnitus/hyperacusis/tonic tensor tympani syndrome weren't related to "anxiety" or "depression".

Have a nice day y'all
greetings

I don't have the reactive tinnitus anymore or hyperacusis or earpain..so healed from those and in general the volume went down, I jus have some real mild ringing, one tone.

Thanks @3ri0w for sharing your improvement story. I'm a little over 8 months in, and have found myself losing hope. Reading success stories like yours helps me believe things can improve--substantially--even after long periods of time. -- Thanks!

Cheers & thank yaw :D I'm gonna keep writing this same "Success Story" of mine over and over again because I'm happy the ordeal is over :D

Did your tinnitus and hyperacusis go away on their own or did you do something?

@3i0w

Glad you made a good recovery but you still should support research to repair the inner ear, just incase it comes back and obviously undo the hearing loss it gave you.

these conditions aren't well understood and seem to come and go

support how?

Might have to retract this story lol.....went to a restaurant last night and suddenly a band started playing REAL loud. Couldn't hear anything what people were saying, so left with hands on my ears, I had not been in that loud place in years... like 4 years maybe? My ears felt fuzzy and it was just sad.

I dunno WHY (I wasn't intoxicated) but 2 hours later I went back to the restaurant/bar because I was informed the band had stopped playing. But our room reservation had expirated and we had to be in the bar room where people were communicating real loud. I'm so ewghgrfe stupid, I don't know why I didn't just leave again. My ears are not healed, I'm not a normal person, it was just so stupid idea to stay. Now this "tic-tic-tic-tic" tinnitus tone is back and it just sucks to be back in this headspace. Like this morse like tinnitus, unregular tone. Why was I a stupid mofo and stayed there :(((((((((

Btw tinnitus is worse than back pain or anything, I was wrong when I said tinnitus is "masked by worse pain", it is not ever masked and tinnitus is worse ordeal than body pain.

Omg this is so TIRING.

It's like an alarm under a pillow, and the sound comes and goes. I can hear the tone for 2 seconds, it gets gradually louder, and then it stops for 0.5 seconds and starts from quietness and raises in volume and the whole thing goes over again and again and again and again

I don't want this :(

Hello! Quiet friend, you yourself experienced the reduction of all your symptoms after a long time, being a very positive sign. Why will not it happen again?

In my opinion, I do not think that having spent a night, rather, a couple of hours in a somewhat noisy environment, you have hurt yourself.

On the other hand, I am one of those who think that tinnitus is multifactorial, that is, produced by a sum of factors, for example: noise + (depression, fear, obsession, etc.)

..... (except in cases where an alarm is triggered right next to your ear) ....

Maybe the anguish of thinking that this event could hurt you has contributed to the next day, you will get up or you will notice the beep again. I do not know if I explained it well. xD

I do not want to say that you have to go clubbing or stand next to a loudspeaker without protecting yourself, but in a normal noise-activity nothing should happen ... and if it happens, what a shit is the recovery! ... sorry for the word.

So I think that yours can be a peak, which can last more or less time.

My advice and although it sounds like cliche, is that you are calm, do not obsess too much now and you will see as well as you had the luck to recover before, which few can say, you will do now too. Come on, I'm sure.

a crack hug! I will make a prayer for you!

..and I repeat, be quiet that it may be a peak and in the end you will have to write a success story again

Hello, you seem like someone very nice to talk to! Below is a link to my most recent thread. It's a little lengthy, but I hope you can read it and tell me what you think. Just feel like I need to tell someone who might know what is going on. Cheers!
