Tinnitus Since
November 2014
My left ear was the issue. It's been 1 year and a few months since the start of the crazy ride. It began as a soft hum.
At its peak is was insane! Purple noise with crickets and a whining ring all at once! Imagine your phone with that combination of sounds coming out of the speaker at full volume next to your ear. If your reading this. I'm sure you don't have to imagine!
Now it's almost gone. .0005 On scale of 0 to 10. I really have to listen for it if I want to hear it. In the mornings I have a little buzz some days. I go straight to the shower and turn on the tub full blast. And the sink.. The noise resets my ear and goes back to normal after 10 minutes. If you have read that you will have it for ever after a year of suffering. F that. If you are noticing any volume decrease even a little. It will likely keep turning down. If you want to read more detail about my situation and what I did 6 months back.. Check out my replies to other post by clicking my profile.

New to this?
Use protection - I would hate to see you on another site with a STD problem ;). Protect your ears too:)
buckle up. It will be tough on your ego, brutal on your emotional state and it takes a long time to heal.Don't take drugs, (especially the drugs from the guys in the white coats, they just want your insurance money) Keep in mind doctors will prescribe depression medication for a stubbed toe if you look sad enough. See just one ENT. Think hard about statistics before you bother with their super freaky brain scan scam. . Anxiety and depression will happen and yes it sucks. But that's part of the human experience. The good with the bad.

i have more detail in replies to other post.
wax build up, sound induced, a bit of hearing loss and I think an issue in my jaw/neck.

When i moved my neck or moved my tongue I noticed that the sound would increase.
On days that i didn't hear the T.
I could hear it by manipulating my jaw neck and tongue.
I was able to track the progress of the lessoning of the T doing the above on off days.

Hard to explain. but as time went on, the sound, when I moved my jaw would get less loud on off days.
When the T would come back it would be the same level as the days I moved my jaw in order to hear it. exercising and stretching my jaw a few times a day has help in the improvement.
I hope that makes sense.

That's interesting, there seems to be a belief that most people with T have it as the result of jaw, neck or dental issues and the close relationship to your inner ear.

I don't know exactly what caused mine, I think it was loud music (louder than I ever do) in headphones that did my initial bout, but it could have been my jaw popping that I recall in October or a combo deal. I don't know if mine will go 100% away but I am around 1-2 now instead of 6-7.

What jaw exercises did you do @Mr cricket

Exercise might be an overstatement: move your neck in a Circular motion: while stretching jaw.
I would move my tounge to the roof of my mouth in front of my teeth to the bottom. Second I would stretch the lower section of my jaw forward. I also moved my neck to the left while my jaw was stretched. Basically I tweaked out on myself till I found the movement of my jaw, tounge and neck that would make the sound louder. I even found a place on my head that when pressed would make it louder or make it present on off days. For the first 3 months taking a drag off of a ecig made it louder. The jaw moment from inhaling activated it. Over time as the t started to chill I noticed that movements that once made the t get loud no longer had the same effect. Those movements have a direct connection to the sound level and frequency that I was experiencing on flare up days. right now I have to tweak my neck pretty far to the left to hear a little bit of t. In the beginning turning my head slightly to the left created a pretty loud sound . The positive change back to quiet was subtle and slow. I'm talking slight improvements every few months over a year and 3 months. Strange mysterious, confusing frustrating, relentless. Such an elusive enemy. But with the right state of mind it can be overcome. Sounds like you are on track to have it gone. Keep it up!!

2 years of hell and it keeps going. My eyes are having strong visual disturbances now. Thought I was doing better at one point but I am not. I just want to die. You are so lucky to have improvement. I pray every night I go to bed that I don't wake up

I'm sorry that your struggle continues.
I made it a point to come back and post here if my T ever decided to leave me alone. In the beginning and up until a month ago I had no idea if it would ever stop. It was difficult to find any positive post and information online when my t started. Not everyone is as "lucky" but I know that I'm not the only one. So, if you are new and stumbled onto my post. I want you to know that it can fade away with time.
I have 2 friends in the real world that had it really bad for an extended period and eventually had it fade. Maybe that helped me. I had some guidelines, tips and advice from people I knew to keep me going.
In the beginning I was stuck, massively panicked and depressed.
Eventually I stopped letting it get me down. That doesn't mean it didn't bother the shit out me. I just stopped fighting with it. Like any bad relationship, the more I fought, the more it fueled the fire, making it worse. I had to divorce myself from the panic and desire to die.
For me it took 1 year and 3 months to stop.

Thank you for your message it gives me hope that mine will either fade away or atleat lower volume, right now mine is like 8 out of 10, and I think about euthanasia every single day because of it.

Thank you for sharing. It gives us "newbies" hope. My tinnitus cycles. One day fairly loud followed by 1-2 days of lower volume etc. It is always reactive but the amount it reacts varies by days and I have found the cycling to be true now for the last 3 weeks with the 1 day bad, 1-2 good, 1 bad, 1-2 good etc. So, I find hope in your story.

That is exactly the way it went for me @Natalie Roberts .
Two days on, one day off, three days off two days on!
Hang in there!! Use white/purple/pink/red/blue (which ever matches best on flare up days). Don't turn the volume to loud. Keep it just below the sound of your ear noise. On off days, use earplugs when watching tv, at the movies, vacuuming and talking to loud people.

Avoid salt, sodium and stress.
If it's in a box or bag, don't eat it. Drink lots of water. I went ahead and order water delivery. Drink lots of it. Water is your friend! There is sodium and floride in tap water. Avoid it.

I even went as far as using a db detector give me the levels of my surroundings. It's pretty amazing how many sounds are louder than the recommended exposure level.

Keep the faith, hope and resolve that this will pass for you!! It most likely will.

So far I only use earplugs during loud noises, movies, loud groups of people (most of the time, except work because I can't), loud resturants , vacuuming, and bathing my kids.. I don't know if I should be protecting all the time around normal sounds or what to do! My T is also very reactive to sounds, I don't know if yours was like it? For example, if my enviornment is louder my T is also louder. When I watch TV my tinnitus is also louder like it's competing with the other noise if that makes sense? So I'm only protecting in conditions where I am concerned the volume is an unsafe level.. I also don't mask because I don't want to wear headphones at all and I also find the masking sounds irritating. I do play a sound machine low volume at night, occasionally (when it is not overwhelming to me).

They think my cause may be pregnancy related or slight hearing loss exaggerated by stress/anxiety. I just don't want to do anything to make it worse. Today it is particularly loud/reactive and annoying but I am stuck at work and cannot use ear plugs all day since I have to be on the phone etc.. I have been cutting out salt, sugar and caffeine and drink only filtered water usually from my refridgerator.. I really want to get better and hope I am making the right choices.

My T started April 2015 and has reduced significantly too. I know it has Improved and changed because I used to describe the sounds I heard and after awhile I was sleeping better without any help from pills and did not describe them the same way. I had 'cricket' noises for about two weeks early on at onset which made it very difficult for me to fall asleep .. It was like trying to sleep a field of crickets going nuts .. But after awhile that went away.
I'm back here 9 months later because crickets are back and last night I had to take a sleeping pill to help me . Hoping that it's just a spike and my tinnitus will keep on reducing to the point of vanishing one day ...
