Cause of Tinnitus
Probably Headphones or Earwax
Hi,

I'm a 31 year old male and I've had tinnitus for a few months now in my left ear. It is the ringing high pitched sound, which is constantly there and most noticeable at night. However, it has got slightly worse in the last few days and can now hear it throughout the day unless I am keeping busy. I have worn headphones on a daily basis throughout my life and I'm guessing this is the main cause of it. I've also been quite stressed for the last 6 months so I don't know if this could have caused it also? I don't seem to have any bad hearing loss. Also, I have had issues with ear wax my whole life - I'm a massive producer of ear wax, but the doctor checked and did not see any problem with ear wax in my left ear. I've also always had fleeting tinnitus for many years in both ears so I don't know if I should have taken this more seriously at the time....

I am just waiting for my appointment to come through with ENT, but I wondered whether in the meantime its worth me trying to take any homeopathy or magnesium which some people have said has helped them?

Thanks for your help!

HI @kev86

Many things can cause tinnitus including earwax and headphones that you have mentioned. Exposure to loud noise is the most common cause of tinnitus and headphone use is usually at the top of the list, along with going to places where loud music is played. If you are continuing to use headphones I advise you to stop and don't even use them a low volume. If I were you I would never use them again but it's your choice. For now don't use them . Please click on the links below and read my posts which you might find helpful. Wait for your Ent appointment and don't try to treat your tinnitus. Use a sound machine by your bedside at night, more is explained in the links below.

All the best
Michael
