Hi there,

Well I'm not sure how to start. I've had tinnitus for well over 10 years now. In the last 2 years it's been more prominent. I have a loud buzzing noise in the right war and a humming noise in the left ear, kinda like when you have a washing machine on and can hear it in the background. This happens all the time especially when I go to sleep and I have no silence.

I've been to the doctor's and they syringed my ears then got referred to the hospital for a hearing test which came out as fine. I mentioned the tinnitus but they just said it was incurable and referred me to a self help group.

It's starting to trouble me now as it's all I hear on a night time when I go to sleep and can't just switch off.

Hey thanks for the advice I will be sure to check it out. I do remember at the time she said let me know if it hurts and in the end even on the lowest setting it was causing aggravation.
They should be able to remove the wax using manual tools. There are people on this forum who got a permanent tinnitus spike as a result of syringing...

HI @Jamie Common

Something caused your tinnitus as it doesn't usually appear out of nowhere. The most common cause is exposure to loud noise/sounds, particularly headphone use or going to places such as clubs and concerts. If you use headphones I advise you to stop using them even at low volume. Please click on the links below and read my posts, which you might find helpful.

Providing you apply ear-oil/drops to each ear three times a day for 10 days before having wax removed: either by ear irrigation or microsuction you should be ok. I have had both procedures three times and haven't had a problem.

All the best
Michael

I agree with Michael Leigh when he says "tinnitus doesn't come out of nowhere" the cause is almost always hearing loss which usually comes from noise exposure.

Hey @Michael Leigh thank you so much for the reply.

I'm gonna give the links a go and look into them. I'm sure my tinnitus has come from going to gigs over the years and wearing headphones. I worry as I'm only 34 and don't want to stop going to gigs but if it means helping the tinnitus then I would

Hello, Recent research indicates that hearing test used at most audiology clinics and ENTs are extremely inaccurate, they only test for hearing loss within the human voice range, learn more here about hidden hearing loss and how almost all cases of tinnitus are a neurological response to hearing loss.
