My Hyperacusis Improves After Listening to Music

I have almost constant ear discomfort of some sort. I wouldn't classify it as pain... It seems that I have broken the ear pain cycle as my hyperacusis is about 30-40% better 5 months in.

Only thing that seems to help me is listening to music at 70-75 dB. I was not able to do this at the start. I get discomfort from lots of everyday noise and I don't wear earplugs yet I'm still improving with my condition. I avoid ear fatigue and pain. When I listen to music relatively loud my tolerance improves and these symptoms almost always subside to some extend. I deal with nerve irritation, TTTS and mild fullness that comes and goes (probably brought on from TTTS).

My loudness discomfort levels measured are probably in the upper 70s or low 80s after improvement.

Do you think it would be foolish to add this into my routine or should I be more careful? Shooting for a 80% recovery at least...

Normally, 70-75 dB music is no problem what so ever if this feel comfortable to you. Your tolerance is improving, but many everyday noises is giving you issues - but no physical pain - if I understand you correct.

All this sounds familiar, speaking of my own experience. I did measure my LDL at a specialist a year ago to 85 dB.

You seem to be on track, and given you are "only" 5 months in you should think of this as positive progression.

Thanks, yes you got it right... I did have my LDLs measured early on before I could tolerate music at 68-70 dB but I'm more than certain that it's improved closer to 80 dB now.

How are you doing these days?

1 year in with hyperacusis now, and I feel I am slowly "coming back to life" again. I will continue with sound therapy and counselling, eating healthy, working out, and trying to avoid stress and be dragged into negative thoughts. I usually only protect my ears to sounds and sound levels that one should protect to - hyperacusis or not.
