Cause of Tinnitus
1st noticed in '88, really bad since Xanax >8 yrs ago?
I am not an expert in anything, but I am a fast, deep study if inspired. I am a late bloomer in terms of noticing my own tinnitus, aware that I noticed it once or twice when young. My question might seem odd, but I've learned that I'm rarely alone in unusual thinking or fringe research.

To your knowledge, has anyone who is 100% deaf ever reported tinnitus or something similar?

From what little I have learned about tinnitus, it has almost nothing to do with the hearing process. It makes me wonder what other phantom sensory interpretations exist, i.e., if tinnitus is the perception of phantom sounds, are there other afflictions that cause the perception of phantom light, phantom smells (I've heard of this one), etc.; and how they might all be related.

Profoundly deaf people can experience tinnitus.

Visual snow is one example of a visual phantom disturbance. Anything sensory related can have phantom experiences.
