Cause of Tinnitus

I got tinnitus in May of this year (2017) it has been three months of ... I don't know even how to describe it.

The first month I was panicking not knowing what was wrong with me, saw an ENT he said hearing loss and aging it's the cause, then he said those words you don't want to hear " there is no cure for it".
Needless to say I was discouraged.

Most of the time is very loud I can hear it over any noises, and when it's that loud I get kind of headaches the scalp feels tight I feel confused can't concentrate, I feel depressed, I don't know what to do I'm trying to figure out what makes it spike but I can't pinpoint anything yet.

Can anyone give me some advice PLEASE

PS the odd time that it goes down to the level where I'm not aware, even though IT'S THERE
I FEEL I'm LIVING AGAIN

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for your suffering with the new tinnitus. T is the hardest to bear during the initial months. Most people affected by intrusive T will suffer and can get very depressed, anxious and sleepless. This is quite normal reaction for most new T sufferers. So you are just being normal with your reaction right now. When my ultra high pitch T was at 2-3 months , I was in a mess. Besides my T, I also had severe hyperacusis (H) which turned all normal sounds piercingly hurtful as if my ears got drilled. Very harsh sensation to take on besides the mad high pitch scream of my T. I was bombarded by relentless anxiety and panic attacks and had to depend on meds just to survive. So I have true empathy for what you are going through, as are most veteran members here who have been where you are. Just hang in there. Don't panic and despair.

Try your best to stay positive and calm, as tinnitus feeds on our negative emotions, like the high stress and extreme anxiety, which can cause sleeplessness too. All these are bad for T so try your best to stay positive. The best way to help this is to read up as many success stories as you can. People do get better over time, particularly after they get support here and learn some helpful strategies. That was what I did and today I live a normal, productive and absolutely enjoyable life. So life after T can still be enjoyable even though the initial suffering is tough (like what you are going through now). Like others I wrote my success stories to share my strategies. I provide the link below if you like to read it. Stay hopeful and positive. Give it some time. Take good care. God bless.

In the past week they have been getting better,
It will most likely continue to improve. Ears take forever to heal...

Protect your ears from further shocks (stay away from blenders, vacuum cleaners, etc.) Consider taking NAC, Magnesium and vitamin B12.

Your tinnitus is causing anxiety. Anxiety can cause scalp tightness and tensions in the body. Tinnitus takes time to adjust to, just take it easy and remain calm. It's going to be ok, all of us have been in your shoes and some still are. It takes time.

This board will support you, just try to stay positive...

Thank you Bill Bauer, no lawn mowers? Trimmers? Etc etc ?
Is it common to most that it spikes in the afternoon regardless, or it happens just to me?

Yes, it is common for T to follow a cycle. Some people have loud T in the morning, others have it bad in the evening. I read that some people's T follows a crazy "X good days followed by Y bad days" cycle (X and Y are different for different people).

I carry Peltor earmuffs everywhere I go. They are easy to slip on. I don't want a fire alarm to sound (or for something else loud to happen) and undo all of my progress...

Thanks Bill, it's crazy 3 months ago I didn't know this existed and now it seems a whole new world opened up and with an unbelievable amount of people with the same affliction and everyone trying with every thing and every way to understand how this T works I sure hope that in the imminent future someone finds a solution and when that happens a cry of joy will be heard all over the world
God Bless and thank you for your help

Hello Free at last thank you lately I'm having longer periods of " bearable " T,
Once in a while I get "spikes" never knowing what causes it, just now as I'm writing it spiked after having a glass of water????
Overall it's much better
