Cause of Tinnitus
AC/DC concert without earplugs
Hi,

I've had tinnitus since August 8th of 2009 after going to an AC/DC concert in the front rows without earplugs.
It was my first concert ever and I fucked it up. Anyways I had tinnitus since and while first months were hard, I managed to cope and I also thing I developped some form of hyperacusis since it seems I think everything is louder than most people I see.
I even got into college in music but left after 2 years for other reasons than tinnitus. I even went back to see ACDC again this year with ear protection. While the sound from the show was so-so with earplugs I at least preventent more damage to my ears.

Fast forward to now, I've been to a job party this saturday and during the dinner the sound was bearable while a little too loud to my ears, figured it was the hyperacusis freaking me out. Then the "party" started, didn't wear earplugs and I thought it was way too loud. I probably stayed in the room for about 30 min before leaving because I couldn't stand it and got scared to make my tinnitus worse.
Right now I think I developped another tone in my left ear which was the one "aiming" at one of the speakers at that evening.
I recall hearing an Eb in my ears, but not this loud. Either I freak about it and it was always there or it really got worse. Anyways I told myself it was the last time I was going to this kind of event for the sake of my ears.

I guess I wouldn't be here if I wasnt freaking about it but sometimes its good to know I'm not alone in this hell.

Hello @Duval
Sorry to read about the concert and the resulting T. I went to a loud concert when I was younger and remember the ringing after the show. It did clear up. Fast forward, I too went out to a bar/ dance place a week or so ago. Too much alcohol and I didn't seem to care how loud the music was. I sure have felt bad every since, including my T.

Anyway welcome to the forum and I really hope your T settles down. Have you been to the doctor about the latest condition? Yes, its a good forum and were not alone. The members all know what this T is. I hope for a better new year for all of us. I'm using ear plugs next time too.

Welcome to TT @Duval. It is unfortunate that your T acts again but it may settle down after a while. So don't panic about it. Stress and anxiety are bad for T. So try to stay calm and give it some time. But since your new T is from acoustic trauma, a course of prednisone may be able to help you ringing. It has to be done asap though. So get your ENT or doctor to prescribe it to see if it helps. In the mean time I recommend masking the ringing so you won't panic too much. Try these sites for masking. Take it easy. God bless.

Thank for the replies,
I havent seen an ENT and might take a while for me do to so here in Canada... never heard of this drug before.
My left ear still seems little louder but I noticed my "new" tone is actually on both side of my ears so I probably had it before but I never took the time to find the pitch until this week because I remember hearing something similar a couple of months ago.

Anyway thanks for those noises generator they're great stuff.
