Anyone feel that these muffs amply low frequency bass sounds and make them seem louder?

Tried wearing them in the gym to cut out the music from the speakers but even 27 dB foam plugs seem to cut more out than these that are supposed to be 33 dB SNR.

I guess I could wear my X5A in the gym but they are way too bulky.

I've also experimented with a lot of earplugs, my go to was the 3M Ear Classic and I've been using these daily for 5 months but I'm beginning to get bad earache and severe stabbing pain (see my ENT next week so I'll mention this) which I think might be caused by the hard foam causing some kind of irritation...

Then I swapped to the 3M EAR 1100 which are WAY more comfortable but they seem a little too think for my ears and don't seem like they create a good seal like the hard 3M Ear Classic did. I need a new larger foam earplug. Hearos are to expensive considering I wear them 1-2 pairs a day so going to get the Howard Leight Laser Lite a try if anyone has any experience.

Also I hate wearing earplugs in the gym because the pressure builds up and I don't know if it's causing damage especially when doing heavy squats and deadlifts (which I've read are bad for tinnitus anyway) but the X4A seem like they're not protecting me enough (am I being paranoid>)

Sorry about the rant but the gym is the only thing keeping me going atm but I just want to be able to train in peace without all this paranoia...
