Hello fellow comrades. I feel like we are all sitting at this table with something similar to the cone of silence (what movie was that?) yet all we hear is noise. Personalized, unwelcome noise noise noise. I feel like everyone else dealing with this noise. I first noticed the ringing a little over a month ago. So frightening and frustrating. My brain is on fire! I'm not even sure why. Anyone else here been told that it's just stress?

I have read that stress can absolutely cause T and help it through stress reduction. If you feel yours might be stress induced, thats a great piece of data to create a plan from.

Sorry your brain is on fire.

"It's stress" is a catch-all explanation when doctors (or others) don't really know what's going on with you. I find it counter productive because it halts the diagnosis process.

There are very real causes for Tinnitus, so there is no reason to stop at "it's stress": you can go through a diagnosis process to try to root cause your T, because there are causes that are fixable. You may not find your root cause, but stopping at "it's stress" seems inadequate to me.

Good luck.

Welcome @Jewon!
Did the "just stress" diagnosis come from a doctor? I am just curious as to whether or not you have had your hearing tested? Have you been around loud noise or listened to loud music through headphones?

Hi all and thanks for being supportive.

In short from the specialists I've seen to the support group that heard me today and everyone I know in between, seems like stress can cause this and that kind of diagnosis is plausible. Stress does affect everyone differently.

I did a hearing test and am awaiting results from all the other tests includimg MRI. Hopefully things get better.

@Jewon,
There are some others on the forum who have tinnitus that was likely caused by stress and many more (including myself) who have noted that elevated stress can intensify tinnitus. I think that loss of hearing is the most common cause of tinnitus though,so I am glad that you have been tested and glad that you don't have hearing loss. I hope you will be able to reduce both your stress and tinnitus in time.

Well, I got my results and aside from the noise, I'm an otherwise healthy person. Maybe it is stress and maybe it's cumalitive.
Stress causes heat attacks. Stress causes tinnitus.

As for why tinnitus, I don't really know as there wasn't a specific moment I can attribute this to. All I know is this is my new normal and it is not easy. I can mask mine which is the only good news.

Anyone here use a masker? Advice?

Yes they say it can be stress. BTW I am in LA and am from oc and there is an AMAZING doctor out in Irvine. He has T himself and is inventing some device that can be implanted to stop the noise. Whether that will work or not he was quite helpful with me and went to Harvard and is an ENT and has a special interest in T (which is not easy to find). I pretty much know about all the doctors in socal in regards to T and most ENT's don't know much about it or care to know other than "get used to it."

His name is Harrison Lin/Irvine

Hi Marie, I tried to message you but it said I couldn't due to your privacy settings. I assure you I'm not a creep. :)

I am actually in OC as well and got T just under a year before you, also from an ear infection. I would like to chat with you about a few things. Online of course. :)
