Hi all, sorry to be joining you and sorry you're all here! I've had my tinnitus for 10 days now, a constant super high pitch whine. I got mine from cloxacillin, I have no idea what happened but I'm afraid to be living the rest of my life with this. Especially as I don't even know what is causing the ringing. I'm only 22 :( I miss the silence so much already.

Hi @Andrew Naylor
I have had T for about 10 months, so can't advise you too much, but know exactly how you feel. There are many wise experienced people on here who will definitely support you through this journey. Their advice has helped me lots. In the meantime check out the success stories, they certainly show how there's light at the end of the tunnel
Although it takes time, also try https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/back-to-silence.7172 Best wishes Phil

Thanks Phil, it's so hard to cope though. I have some chronic pain and this is way way way worse. Trying not to be catastrophic, but it's much harder to enjoy my life right now.

Welcome to the forum Andrew. Your T is so new. So don't start to project a catastrophic future about the rest of your life based on the worst suffering. Not to say that new drugs are being developed or tested, such as AM-101, the future may not be as bad as you think even if T stays. Your perception about T can change. There are many people whose T have stayed yet they recover from their T sufferings. Many call this habituation. There are many success stories on TT and you can learn some insights how to deal with T. Some can better because their T fade to a level they can handle. Some find relief by masking T. There are also techniques like CBT, TRT, Mindfulness etc. So don't panic and stress out. Stress and anxiety are bad for T. Try masking your T for now so you won't stress out so much with T. Here are some suggestions:
1) At bed time, you can try mask with sound machine or sound pillow. You can also mask on the go with ipad or smart phone.
2) If you have PC and speakers, try these web sites:

If you need more masking sounds, here is free 'aire freshener':

Rain sounds are soothing indeed. How about making your own rain sounds with this rain generator:

http://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/rainNoiseGenerator.php

Search youtube with 'masking sounds' and you will also get lots of different nature sounds, such as rain, waves, waterfalls, running brooks, even show & faucet.

Try to stay calm and be positive. Doing so can help you much to calm T. A few years back I was in a mess with severe T & H. Now I live a normal and absolutely enjoyable life. I wrote my success story and list many helpful insights. If you want to know them, for brevity, here is my story. Take good care & God bless,

@Andrew01 I FEEL YOU. My ears have also been ringing for 10 days and I am 21. So I get you totally. I'm also totally freaking out that I will have this for the rest of my life and basically want to die right now and haven't slept in days. Wait-this isn't making you feel better sorry..... hmmmmm..... idk maybe you can feel better knowing we are in the same boat? It has made me feel a bit better to read the posts on this website about how upset people are so it makes me feel not so alone and crazy..... idk....... anyway keep me posted on what happens, if it goes away. I hope it does for both our sakes. I got mine from going to a bar ONCE. like once. The Dr. told me it should go away. So maybe yours will go away too? Maybe go see a Dr. But yeah I thought that too: like I am 21 and I never listen to loud music and the one time I go to a bar, this would happen for the rest of my life? That seems totally ridiculous to me..... but then again life is ridiculous. So maybe we will be fine.... I hope....... -_- <3

And if not, don't project your current insanity into the future, because your psychology will adapt, especially if the whine is consant(feel bad for the people with hyperacusis, whose tinnitus gets louder/with ear pain if they are around normal-volume sounds, forcing them into isolation.)
You may have to replace your silence-time with music time--since this wasn't caused by acoustic trauma, this shouldn't be a problem. Right now your conscious mind is focusing its attention on the new level of tinnitus; this will change--and yeah, it might just go away(imo calming down with anti-anxiety meds or some other means will increase the probability of recovery as those neurons stop firing away in your manic state. I also believe expanding your mind with some challenging activities of the mind will increase that likelihood[as well as get your mind off the tinnitus]).

I agree with Anxiousjohn. Even if your tinnitus doesn't go away, it will probably settle down to a more manageable level in a short period of time. That's what happened to me, when my tinnitus first started. Right at first, my ear ached and I suffered from panic attacks and a lot of anxiety. But a few months later, the tinnitus settled down, and I was able to live my life normally again.

Right now, it's important to get enough sleep, stay calm, watch your diet (not too much caffeine, alcohol, sugar, etc)., and keep background sound in your environment at all times. Also, try to life your life as normally as possible, and focus on something outside yourself. Exercise can help a lot, too. In time, you'll find that things really do begin to settle down for you.

Take care, and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Best wishes,
Karen

Thanks for all the input and support from you guys. Truly sorry we're gathered here. Yeah I think that as long as I stop trying to measure it and almost listen for it and get used to the fact it's not a threat I should be okay. Air freshener has been a lifesaver for work.

Just taking it easy and listening to this playlist right now.

It's honestly not too bad, and as long as it doesn't get worse I should be alright.

To me one of the toughest things about T is just trying to stay positive once the negative thoughts creep into your mind its even tougher to deal with T.

@Andrew01 , yes, I agree, a forum I'm sure we'd all rather not be on. Like you, I've only had this for 7 days and that's 7 days too long. I couldn't have imagined how difficult this would be but getting comfort from other like minded people. I've just laid awake for 3 hrs there trying to sleep and am so mentally and physically exhausted that's it's difficult to relax and be positive, as suggested. I truly hope that this is only a temporary thing for us all, stay strong xx

What happened ? Did it fade away after months ? Just curious
