Dear fellow hyperacusis and tinnitus friends,

I have faced many ups and downs in my life, but this year has been incredibly hard and nothing else compares. Ironically, this experience has taught me just how fortunate I was before hyperacusis and tinnitus entered my life.

These conditions have humbled me to my knees, bringing dark thoughts I never imagined I would have.

Yet, you all have given me hope that no matter how long it takes, I can get better.

At first, I was reluctant to join this group, but as my symptoms worsened, I realized that only those suffering from severe hyperacusis and tinnitus could truly understand me and what I am going through.

I had mild to moderate tinnitus before this year, and I will admit that when I read sad stories or saw people complaining about their tinnitus, I could not fully understand it. It was "just a ring" after all.

So it is no surprise that loved ones do not really get it. My husband and little girl sort of do, but I cannot bring myself to talk about my suffering with them. What is the point? I feel like it would only upset them.

The purpose of this post is to say that I have met a handful of wonderful people I never would have encountered if it were not for this journey. Each one of you has helped me in countless ways, making it possible to get through each day. Knowing I am not alone has truly touched my heart.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To those celebrating, I wish you a wonderful Christmas, and I hope the new year brings you health and peace in abundance.
