Well then... After binge watching all the Sex and the City episodes, I had a craving for cigarettes. I used to smoke (lightly) years ago. Gave them up easily.

I got a pack today and had one and wow. It made me so calm. The only thing besides alcohol or a benzo (never together) that has just helped me to... Relax in a while.

Not going to become a smoker and I'm not advocating it at all but man do I wish there was something else that would do that.

I know...I eat a lot and it helps except I'm getting fat, which is another side effect of my T! Have considered a cigarette, think it would do the trick but gave up years ago...I now eat licorice and polo mints when am not bingeing on food but they also give me unwanted side effects - I'll spear you the details...I wonder if those e-cigs may be the way forward for me...

Cigarettes are kind of like Pringles and crack cocaine - difficult to use in moderation. How about a good massage? My dog licks my face all over and it drains the tension away (not advocating it but...)

So funny, I've been thinking of having a cigarette too! I quit years ago and never really smoked a lot -more socially. A friend of mine who owns an cool art/consignment store rolls her own with organic tobacco she gets shipped in from Belgium or somewhere and they are so smooth!

I started smoking, drinking, poping pills and eating like a pig after I got tinnitus, I really don't care anymore, just trying to find something to get me through the day.

Does drinking intensify your T?
I haven't drank a sip of alcohol since my honeymoon....

Funny that I found your post. I used to smoke 2 packs a day and quit smoking 4 years ago, replacing it by E-Cig. Recently, I read about the ototoxicity of Propylen Glycol, which is widely used (in different proportions) in e-liquids.
I'm doing an experiment replacing my E-Cig by real cigarettes (yeah I know, doing right the opposite of what people do).
Strangely, my T is way more bearable after smoking a cigarette.
So...for now, I'm back to smoking. I'll quit whenever I feel like it and when my T gets less stressful.

As to alcohol, it does seem to work the opposite. If I drink a glass of alcohol, my T intensifies... Go figure...

I smoke marijuana cigarettes. I did in extreme moderation before, like 1 - 3 times a year max when I went to the cottage with friends during the summer. Never a habit. Now, since T onset, I just don't care. It gives me a quality of life. I'll take being high off my head and sleeping like a baby and eating right and being in a good mood as opposed to insomnia, horrific anxiety, and obsessing over the tinnitus.

Which pills

Everything that can help you relax is good for you and to help coping with your T ! ;)

Especially if this is not too many cigarettes per day...

All the Best !

I quit smoking 19 years ago and When I wake up my T is so loud and then I have 2 cigarettes and within 1 hour the ringing in my ear is reduced by 40% and I feel very relaxed. This is working for me also.

Anyone who thinks smoking is a way forward, get that idea out of your head. Smoking causes high blood pressure, hypertension, heart disease, etc, and it kills hair cells. How would you like to hear "You have cancer" through your tinnitusy ears?

If you must, try nicorette gum or nicotine patch. That's the active ingredient you want, without the dirty delivery. It is still a poison that causes hardening of the arteries...

I read that years ago. Smoking blocks the fine capillaries. That's why smoker's skin is all wrinkled and aged. The cells don't get blood flow. This will also happen in the ears.

I have no source. Just common sense.
That makes sense.

I've been smoking since i was 18. 10 cigs a day.

Today, 2 years after onset, i have a normal life and almost noticeable T most of the time. But i've noticed i've been smoking more to manage anxiety, i crave more nicotine.

I'm afraid of what would happen if i suddenly stopped smoking... Looking into ECigs...

From what I hear/read if smoking gives you some sense of relief from tinnitus you should continue to smoke because we all know that we're not getting out of this world alive besides some of the drugs are a lot worse than a couple of cigarettes.

This appears to be common with tinnitus sufferers and hyperacusis. Our attitude to drugs changed, but isn't that true with any medical condition that uses drugs e.g. blood thinners, SSRIs, insulin.

I swim everyday. Lately I can put in 60 minutes of doing laps, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. I am learning to breathe after being a cigarette smoker for decades. I am a year and change off the cigarettes. I am dabbling with breathing. I am definitely a lunatic with brain damage, but giving it a go and going to commit harder, be more hard core if it is possible? Not only is it possible but it means having a real life, where suffering is not the overbearing constant.

Having said all that.

I am open to drugs.
I am sadly guilty of praying for FX-322 to salvage my damage.
I know I have brain damage as well, I could feel a sharp pain into my brain.
Maybe electrical zaps could help the PTSD, and brain damage.
Perhaps a few shots of Charles Liberman's goop.

I cautiously, optimistically feel I can get a life worth living back.
I need to start making art again.
I need to do yoga.
I need to keep swimming.
I need to love everybody around me.
I need to breathe.
I need to use any thing at my disposal to fight this torture.
First line of defense should be hardcore holistic practices to transcend the psychophysical pain.
