Cause of Tinnitus
Ear infection
Got T from a stupid freaking ear infection in February then got H then H got better and I was habituating. In the past couple weeks I haven't even HEARD it even if I completely listened for it in very quiet areas.

I posted that I had a lot of drinks on Thursday night and woke up with it pulsing but not super loud and that settled but I think maybe because I spent 2 days obsessing and listening the H came back.

So for the past few days things like talk radio sound glassy and made my ear ring? and even my own voice at times sounds glassy.

No problem I can ignore it like I did before and it will go away.

Today 3x I had the fleeting T LOUD. LOUD like hell and super high pitch. I've never had it that many times and one time it lasted 10 minutes and for an hour ANY noise came in my ear like a ring so even after the initial spike settled any noise would come through ringing?

It's settled but it scared the hell out of me and I know I can't live like that if the noise was like that all the time. Is this because I was hyper focusing on it for the past few days? I have NEVER had spikes that bad this many times in such a short period of time.

I need stories of hope that people who have had fleeting T and that it settles.

All this from a stupid freaking outer ear infection. I don't even understand it.

It's settled
So you are still doing good?

it scared the hell out of me and I know I can't live like that if the noise was like that all the time.
It scared you, welcome to tinnitus

Worrying about what ifs, classic Marie79

Hell... here's a solution.... free of charge: stop living your life because of what might or could happen in the future

BETTER YET, HEY! kill yourself right away because, eh, you will anyway end up miserable with your guaranteed LOOOOUD TINNITUS 10 years from now! Why wait for the INEVITABLE!

AT ALL COSTS, avoid going to a therapist and figuring out why you are so anxious about doomsday scenarios and improving your life!!!! NOW THAT would be THE WORST THING you can do....

(READERS: pls appreciate Marie79's problem is anxiety, not tinnitus... I'm trying to make a point above!!!)

@gotyoubynuts , I realise you may be using some sad form of sarcasm here, but a support site like TT is not the place for your type of comments. Please stop it. People may take you seriously, which is a risk with a debilitating disease like tinnitus. Everyone experiences it in their own way. and many on here have been in very dark places where suicide could have been an option. I hope the admins will keep an eye on your comments with regards to telling people to kill themselves 'in jest'. It is not funny.

I have had words with @gotyoubynuts about this before and can't believe he is still behaving in this childish and foolish manner. If he ever experienced loud intrusive tinnitus, to the extent that I have and others on this forum, then he would think twice about what he is doing. Clearly, he is of no help here.

@Marie79 almost everyone experiences fleeting T. Sometimes it comes in waves. Ive had times where it happened like a dozen times in an hour. No idea why, but i never worry about fleeting T because generally it is exactly that, fleeting. Unfortunately ear infection can be a cause for tinnitus, it could even be one of the causes of mine. Had tons of outer ear infections from scuba diving in 'less than ideal water conditions'.

Dont worry about the fleeting T, it's quite common.

@gotyoubynuts...unacceptable bro. Mods?

Marie, this may sound like common sense and I am probably one of the least prudish guys on here. Don't drink that much. If you are out drinking a lot in a high noise environment typical of most clubs and you have the challenges to hearing we all do here...I believe you are asking for trouble. Some react badly to alcohol and of course loud noise is also bad for T. People like us who have challenges to our hearing few of us can figure out why...most of us are dumb founded we have this condition...we have to watch our health closer. But certainly not the over the top criticism of gubtn's.

Hopefully will settle soon. Feel better.

I agree with Cor & michael, try not and worry about Fletting tinnitus, everyone get it's and it always goes back down. Some times I will get it 5 times in one day, and then I may not get it for weeks. It has a mind of its own. I also agree about drinking, specially if your in a loud club, it can make you get caught up in the moment and you won't notice that it's getting too loud, and that you need to put in your ear protection and or leave the club. You need to be clear thinking, and drinking can effect that. Better safe then sorry the next day. You will be fine just try and use good judgement.

Take care

Ok thank you guys. It's been 24 hours with no fleets :). I mean I get it the 15 second part isn't the part that is the worst it's the fear that it will never leave.

My voice is still sound a teeny tiny glassy but I think that's just my H acting up a bit because I've been more sound anxious if you know what I mean

It takes sometimes a kind of moment-to-moment bravery (at first) to just "let go" and quit hyperfocusing and worrying, but it's important to develop this skill, even one baby step at a time (and yes, you can get better at it).

Because, yes, I believe (and have read scientific articles, which I'll paraphrase here) that thinking too much and giving too much attention to something CAN make it increase.

So the next time you are listening out for it, make yourself stop.

Sometimes if I get a fleeting spike, or even a higher volume day, I will now talk back to the tinnitus, and say, "F you, off you go ... " or "Who gives a F" and just get on with what I'm doing. I swear that encouraging an inner attitude of strength and rebellion sends some kind of better and powerful message to my entire body, and that things settle down again MUCH more quickly than if I were to cower and notice every little nuance of the tinnitus and etc. and etc.

So I would say that ESPECIALLY since you've already had it be worse and then had it settle and be low volume, that you have it in you to settle it all again, successfully! :)

Marie!
i hope you are doing better.
8 months here and i have had on and off days.
but i think that after reading your entry.
i think you are in your way for a complete habituation! :)

I do that all the time...i curse it out..this shit wont beat me !!!!

@gotyoubynuts ,
Sorry for late post but been off for a few days due to cronic tinnitus blasting my head off and Menieres and for me it's been soul destroying and pushed me to my limits.
Please don't tell people to kill themselves as its not anything to promote to members when we know just how mental torture it can be and people can act on your posts.
If Marie acted on your advice and did it I'm sure you could be in deal bother with the law....lots of love glynis

Glynis,
So hope your health takes a turn for the positive soon to give you some relief.

Question: Do you see a cycle to all your suffering?...relief, then more difficulty, than relief once again?

@stophiss ,
My tinnitus stays the same really high as have 50% high frequency loss in both ears due to Menieres and a loud drone in the left ear on top.
I've had it in my head this time and bad headaches and been dizzy for over 6 -12 weeks and in tears .
AnE refured me to ENT but when went on Monday was told ENT had sent me to the casualty clinic and by mistake and now waiting see audiology at the hospital and my Menieres consultant again .
My Menieres now is at burn out stage 3 as he told me 4 years ago that means my tinnitus is worse and more hearing loss and more balance problems but the last 4 months have been horendous and been on sleeping tablets as not been sleeping.
The doctor took me off the sleeping tablets this Tuesday and added nortripaline and adjust the dose till gets me asleep.
He said he thinks I have some head nerves backfiring he thinks causing the tinnitus to rage so badly and this should help calm them and my tinnitus down he hopes and help sleep so that's why changed over from sleeping tablets.
Gone 2 nights with no sleep so dose up to 30mg tonight to see what that does.
One thing I have noticed is that ear pressure is better and tinnitus in head as gone and balance calmed down so don't feel drunk when walking.
Early days but hope the start of progress and ears get some relief.
I got to the stage I would be glad press a button to disappear off the face of the earth and support at home was poor and off work for a few weeks.

My dear friend Michael as been a rock of support over the phone and heard me in tears and despair but today as been a lot better and just need get my sleep under control and bring my tinnitus down a bit if possible.. ...
Staying positive....lots of love glynis

Thank you Richard . ...staying positive... the only way now is up :)...lots of love glynis

Marie first of all you are a beautiful young lady and im sure you have a great social life but as someone posted above I would try to keep the alcohol cunsumption within reason and of course where some sort of ear protection when in club or concert type situations. Far as the fleeting T I remember having that before the onset of my condition and is normal to get these high pitched frequency sounds. My T has really backed off doing the things that I love to do and most of the time dont hear it at all unless listening for it. My T I could hear over everthing but the shower but when I quit worrying about it and focused on a quality life it really backed off ..Loosen up and live and stop listening for changes in your T for it feeds off of your attention and stress. You will be just fine !!!!!!!!
