Tinnitus Since
06/2015
Hi lovely Tinnitus Talk folk,

So I have had tinnitus now for 6 months caused by an ear infection. Since developing tinnitus I have been through the usual loop of anxiety and depression, but thankfully seem to be heading in a more positive direction now! I am a Yoga teacher and have relied heavily on my Yoga practise to get me through this.

I have been thinking long and hard about how I could thank tinnitus talk members for all the support they have given me over the last few months, and I have set up a blog which I will update regularly with some practises that I have found particularly useful in giving me some relief from my tinnitus.

The blog is in its very early stages so please bear with me, but I hope you find it useful! Please feel free to ask any questions, give feedback etc!

Hi Danielle,

Your blog is great! I can really relate to your post 'a not so silent yogi.' I have really tried to increase my yoga practice since developing T 6 months ago, it was heartbreaking to me at first to try and practice with the intruding noise. I still have problems with savasana and am skipping this final pose because I just can't lie and be with the noise most of the time. Have you found that yoga has helped you cope or has reduced the noise at all? Sometimes I really feel that yoga has been beneficial in helping me cope and lowering the noise and other times (like during a spike or during a bad day), I feel it's all a bit hopeless. I tend to look at my increased yoga practice (half an hour almost every day) as like a future insurance to prevent further damage! Once again, thanks for sharing your blog - I loved reading it.

Hi @eve88

Sorry for my late reply....I've been away for a few days. Thanks for your lovely words and sharing your experience with me!

I do believe Yoga has helped me in reducing the volume of my tinnitus and has certainly helped me overcome the anxiety around it.

Yep, savasana can be a tricky one! Even for those without tinnitus. I've been writing up a lot of the methods I used and I think I will use this as my next blog post if this helps! Should be able to get it updated on Monday when I'm back home if that's useful?

Well done on getting yourself back in your mat though! Please keep me posted on how it goes....it really helps to inspire me and keep me motivated to know that I'm not alone in this noisy silence!! X

@Pumpkin

Your story is very relevant to me. I started practicing yoga back in 2002, and it kept me going for many years. Before my severe T onset, I was attending practice at least 4 times a week and I was in the best physical and psychological shape of my life. Enter T, and as you mentioned it was nearly impossible to practice with all this noise inside my head where before there was silence. I tried many times, but I could not get back into the pace. I was always feeling odd at the class, unable to find my way. My T is very fluctuating, and it was very difficult to know if I will have a machine shop inside my head or just background noise. As a result, two years later I have basically abandoned the practice, and it seems to me part of my old life that got lost to this crazy condition. I have not discussed my problems with any of my teachers since I did not want to advertise my T. Do you have any advice?

Hi folks.....I have finally had a chance to update my blog this week. Focusing on how we can practise Savasana (relaxation) with tinnitus. Apologies for any grammar, spelling mistakes etc, but really wanted to get this published for people sooner rather than later. The lovely @glynis gets a mention this week as well!

@InfiniteLoop the best advice I can give.....and it may seem very basic....is just to get back on your mat. As heartbreaking as it seems to begin with, you learn to work with tinnitus on the mat with you. I believe what happens on our Yoga mat is a reflection of what is going on in our lives. As you grow stronger with your tinnitus on the mat, you will grow stronger with your tinnitus in day to day life.
