Hows this for an alternative.

A poster on a british T forum I frequent called Di Oz, swears by sound cancelling headphones ,she wears them a few hours a day .
When she puts them on the T dissapears and over the months it seems to be softening It as well.
Ive followed her posts for months and she Is obviously genuine.

Do a bit of searching for more of her posts.

As she knows from our posts to her we all wonder how total quietness produces the T to go but she Insistes it works for her and seems to be treating the T as as well.

EDIT: http://www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/community/forums/tinnitus.aspx?g=posts&t=8262 2nd post down from Di Oz Is one of her good ones...and 7th post down from her excellant
Thoughts?

It would be great if some people benefit from it. Maybe it depends on the level of T. What I did notice with the pair I bought is that the volume control goes really low so I can use them to cancel out some noise and listen to music without blasting your ears.

Its interesting. Also interesting that an audiologist said they give the ears a 'rest from sound' when we read all over that ears are happiest with sound and they dislike silence.

She's actually saying that her hearing improved with the use of them. I wonder if her hearing just improved anyway and that's why the T has diminished?

Either way, you'll probably find me tracking down these headphones to give them a try, sigh......

Personally I tend to agree with Grey1's thoughts:

Before everyone jumps up and down saying I am being nasty or derogatory about anyone or in fact anything, all I am doing is voicing my opinion on a topic that as we stand has no scientific basis and is only subject to speculation for or against and I am on the against side. (Just in case it is not clear)

In reply to your comment about this crazy topic all I would say is there is not one shred of research that underscores this mad idea. The day I see tried and tested peer reviewed popularly accepted research that suggests that Noise cancelling headphones can help I will sit up and take notice.

In the meantime we know we get all sorts of claims about this and that being able to cure T, all of which fall flat on closer inspection.

Then apart from, on a practical level, that you would think that if there had been a ground swell of success stories about people using this method we would have heard of it loud and clear, here on this site and in the press, but no, to my knowledge all we have one lone voice proclaiming the virtues of this method.

The problem is with these isolated cases (and I mean in general not this specific case in question) that quiet by chance a change can happen to the T and by accident that patient happened to be using the headphones, then suddenly it was the headphones that brought about the change. No so.

I am sure there are thousands of visitors to this site who suffer bad onset of T only to find later an unexplained easing of the symptom in some cases complete ceasing of the noise, and guess what, they have not all been wearing these miraculous headphones.

So yes your question is in fact very pertinent, who in their right mind would want to cancel all ambient noise by wearing these things. We all know of the famous experiment where perfectly normal young healthy people were placed in a sound proof room, all of whom experienced the onset of T in one shape or form.

Absolutely crazy I am afraid.

Di Oz's experience is an interesting anecdotal experience however :)
