Supplements & Tinnitus — What Do You Take? What Should I Take?

I have tried Magnesium 250 mg, GABA 750 mg and Melatonin 5 mg. This combination seems to lower the frequency and amplitude of my ringing and at times I have crystal silence. Also, it gives me a good night's sleep.

Nowadays, as my sleep is very good, I only use a potent Omega-3 supplement before bed + 0,25-0,5 mg liquid Melatonin from Olympian Labs (+ antihistamine for allergy issues).

Again, if I'm stressed out, I might add in some Magnesium (glycinate) + Zinc (small doses) to calm down the nervous system before bed.
Do you take the fish oil pill before bed and the allergy pill?

They are Norwegian brands, so I don't think you will get them at your place.

But the antihistamine is a regular one for allergies called Cetirizine.
I buy my fish oil pills from Xtend-Life out of New Zealand. I don't think you will find a more pure fish oil pill. Most fish oil pills are made with Anchovies (a bottom feeder fish). They use Tuna and the New Zealand Hoki fish from the pristine waters.

Xtend-Life is a good brand.

I'm interested in how people determine a good supplement brand?
That they contain what they advertise on the sticker, in the amount that is advertised. ConsumerLab.com for example tests different manufacturers' supplements at their independent laboratory and checks for the contents.

Certain brands have been more reliable than others over a long period of time, and then they become "a good supplement brand."

Of course it also matters if supplements use natural or synthetic versions of stuff. For example dl-alpha-tocopherol is a synthetic version of vitamin E. The natural version is d-alpha-tocopherol.

It's a science and you need to be very careful looking at the ingredients and brand. In general the manufacturers are after your money and a lot of the supplements are junk, a waste of money.

I take supplements but there is no substitute for the real thing. A recent injury to my ankle, caused by two pit bulls attacking me while I was on my eBike, taught me the power of antibiotics and proper healthcare. They almost pulled me off my bike, and if I had gone down, they would have killed me.

One of the antibiotics my primary care physician gave me before I went to the ER is called Nuzyra. It costs somewhere between $30,000 and $50,000 for a 30-day supply. Thankfully, my insurance covered it, or at least I hope it did. It is a miracle it did not permanently spike my tinnitus, which was originally caused by antibiotics in Portland 30 to 40 years ago.

Since the attack, I have focused on foods and medications that support my immune system. Ginger, walnuts, and garlic, for example, have medicinal properties when taken in therapeutic quantities rather than just as part of a regular diet. At my last visit to the Wound Clinic, I saw new skin tissue starting to grow back, less than a month after the attack, so I am happy with my progress.

That is some expensive drug! That must have been quite an attack. I wish you the best, and I'm glad you have health care.
