TENS Unit Causing Severe Tinnitus Episodes?

I am in physical therapy and my therapist started using a TENS unit by placing two electrodes on my lower stomach. All of a sudden about 8 minutes into the procedure, my tinnitus was the loudest it has ever been! It finally stopped about after 2 minutes. But ever since then, I have been having loud bouts such as that. I have not had this happen before. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or know of any like this. I have read a little about TENS being helpful for tinnitus, but not making it worse.

I have used TENS and PEMF devices. Both can modulate tinnitus from my personal experience. It usually goes back to baseline though.

I sure hope so because mine has been pretty sporadic since using the unit. How long do you notice your tinnitus returning to normal? I'm suppose to use a TENS every night for pain, but I don't want to risk a permanent shift in noise.
