Thudding Noise When Using Ear Muffs

When using ear muffs, I notice a thudding noise when walking about (especially when touching an ear cup). I've seen others describe this as the 'occlusion' effect.

I often use ear muffs when cooking at home as to protect my ears from the sound of clanging kitchenware. I'm concerned that the thudding noise from using ear muffs may actually be doing more harm the noise of plates occasionally crashing for example. I can't say I've noticed a difference in my tinnitus whether I use ear muffs or not in the kitchen, however my assumption was that it'd be best to use them. Nevertheless I'd be interested to get other people's thoughts on this.

My question: is it possible ear muffs can exacerbate tinnitus, or even cause hearing damage because of the thudding noise that's created when moving about?

These are the muffs I'm using now in case that's relevant: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000QHF98K

Thanks for reading my post and I look forward to reading any replies.

It is unlikely that ear muffs can worsen your tinnitus but over usage of them can probably cause your ears to be too sensitive to sounds. The following sites list different sounds, their dbs and how long before damage can be done. I don't see earmuff thudding noise being listed as something dangerous to the ears. Take care. God bless.

When I walk on hard surfaces while wearing muffs, I can hear that too. I wouldn't worry about it.

I can imagine that if someone where to slap your muff, it would be bad.

I think you are on the right track as far as protecting your ears from sounds that your body is telling you are too much for your ears. In my experience, eventually H will get better, and it will not be hindered if you protect your ears from moderate noises.
