- Hearing loss (stress + virus activation)
Hello,
I am from Austria and I think I got my Tinnitus August 2017 from a hearing loss in my left ear at frequencies above 4000 hz.
All started with a dizzy feeling while I was working on some projects and at first I didnt even recognize it, I guess because of the high frequencies. I felt some kind of sick (headache) but thought it was because of doing a lot of work so I went out hiking on the weekend to get some fresh air and some relaxing. After driving home I felt like I heard a really silent noise and I went to the local doctor and he said I had an outter ear infection - both ears were swollen - the left one nearly completly - but I had no pain at all and he gave me some antibiotics. So I took them for three days and there was no result concerning my new very silent noise. So I went to an ear doctor and he made a hearing test and found that on the air line I had like 90 decibel at 5000hz drop starting at 4000hz and NO inner ear problems so bone line was completly ok. He found a crust on my eardrum and said thats the problem and gave me some blood circulation pills. He said I should come back in 3-4 weeks - so I waited and took my pills. After 2 weeks I said to myself "Something must be wrong" and went to some other ear doctors and to the hospital and they found out I also had a hearing loss in my inner ear with an air bone gap around 30 decibel but they said thats because of the high frequencies (recruitment) or whatever. After that I got cortisone 2 times and 3 times intratympanic cortisone therapy. No result. Somehow my Tinnitus got louder and louder and the funny thing is that the crust was again and again on the eardrum also when they took it away I think like for 3 months? I cant say if the hearing loss came from some kind of virus infection...or stress...or wrong sitting...or if it was just a combination of things.
So I had my "standard" therapies from the doctors...also a little bit late...but well..and I also checked my neck and other physical conditions, removed my wisdom tooth, found a chronic little sinusitis left sided, made MRTs and tried to spend a lot of time doing some sport activities to stay at least with the rest of my body healthy.
I tried some hearing aids for a few hours but I was not so happy with them I think...maybe I try them again but most doctors say its useless because my loss is not in the area of the normal human voice, but what I found out is that I cant hear good when there are lots of people talking around me or in restaurants with lots of noise etc. and also I cant hear a clear sound at the hearing test also not at 90db it all seems to be distorted and in beginning I also had a lot of trouble being in the kitchen and turning on noisy kitchen tools. So maybe thats kind of a hyperacusis...I dont know...sometimes I dont know how to manage the future...sometimes the Tinnitus stops for like 1-2 seconds I dont know why but its nearly everyday and it always gives me shocks this moment of complete silence.
Its hard for me because I believe the Tinnitus came up because my brain dont get sound above 5000hz anymore. So I dont even think anything can help me reducing it. I mean when I play music to "mask" it, its always above the sound and it seems to me louder when I turn the music off. I also have some kind of numb feeling from my ear to my left cheek, forehead but till now no answer on that problem - maybe its because of that high frequencies loss or from the Tinnitus, tension?? I have no idea and no doctor and also havent found anything on the internet.
Maybe one of you has an input for me what I could try to do to reduce the Tinnitus or keep my concentration away from it...or maybe an idea about that numb feeling...I am of course happy for every input. Thank you!
