Tinnitus, as a Problem of the Brain

My main takeaways from the article:
  • Putting freshly baked bread on your ears won't ease your tinnitus.
Bonus points:
  • Thousands of years after the earliest known scrolls of Ancient Egypt described the condition, tinnitus is still a mystery for modern science.
  • Tinnitus is more of a ringing in the brain, rather than a ringing in the ears.
  • Tinnitus goes beyond the auditory cortex. It's a disease of networks that span the entire brain.
  • MEG imaging allows scientists to study human subjects with tinnitus non-invasively and with high sampling rate (100 samples/s).
  • Caudate nucleus and Putamen may play an important role in tinnitus.
  • Louis Lowry was cured of tinnitus after having a stroke that damaged his Caudate nucleus and Putamen.

The article makes feel like by going with my natural impulse to hone the sound it became rooted in my brain. Where as if I had made a point of ignoring it my brain wouldn't have devoted space to tinnitus, and it would have disappeared. At least that's what I took from the article.

Also it kind explains why earlier white noise exposure was able to inhibit the onset of tinnitus in mice.

@Kelvin It's possible (article) that most of this relates to the neck. Improper body movements causing muscles spasms or opening nerve channels with focus to the DCN. At least for those with high ringing. A doctor said to me, why is it that many who attend concerts versus going to a movie theaters get tinnitus. He said the volume is just as loud watching a movie as it is listening to a rock group. He said the reason is the neck. People watching a movie have their necks straight looking at the screen. People at outdoor concerts are often moving their heads around. This doctor thinks that 60% of all tinnitus is from a somatic posture pattern that which include noise and body movement.

I only know that i was perfectly fine... till a mortar blast, ear fullness, hearing loss and 6 days after tinnitus started... yes it alters with movements of my neck but please... hearing loss the golden standard for tinnitus

I've heard a story that goes the other way round, tinnitus was gone after being subjected to a rocket launcher blast.

I like stories... when its bed time

(In my story, when i get it written someday here there is something that can relate to what you just said)

yeah keep telling that for a 5 Hours user per day here
Honestly I've tried to spend less time here because however long you spend here is however long you've submitted to the condition of T. I'm trying to not let it control life as I know it and slowly started taking it back... One slow crawl at a time.

You said it, I did wonder when did you get your tinnitus and I saw that we are two days apart, keep on, it only gets better!

Even though i dont want to be off topic
Ill post sometime soon my story but briefly, it took me 5 months, much better now in my 6th, it is reduced, but who am i kidding? It has its ups and downs but i definately dont react the same to my T, i am much more "who gives a crap" when i used to be all day long "this thing is gonna get me killed"
