Cause of Tinnitus
possibly caused by surgery to jaws to correct overbite
Several years ago I had both jaws broken and realigned to correct over-bite and TMJ symptoms. About 6 months later I experienced a partial hearing loss in one ear and tinnitus that is still on-going. ENT could not discover any cause for hearing loss or tinnitus. I've only recently started wondering if trauma to jaws from surgery could be the cause of both tinnitus and hearing loss.

I'd be interested in hearing anyone's thoughts or experience with something similar.

Thanks!

@Contrast, thank you!

Ugh! Don't know why it took me so long to put the 2 together. And the jaw surgery also left me with nerve damage to lower lip and chin. WOULD TELL ANYONE CONSIDERING SURGERY TO AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAUGE!

Kelly, we all just do the best we can with the information we have at the time. There often is hope though -- perhaps not so much for the nerve damage, but for the tinnitus.
We recently talked about tinnitus assoc. with dental procedures, specifically prevention and possible solutions.
If that so, working on your jaw muscles (trigger point therapy) would be the best approach now. If it helps, you will know within a couple days...
