Cause of Tinnitus
Bicycle tire Exploding
Hi There,

I thought I would join this form for help and advice.

My Tinnitus started with a bicycle tire explosion from a customer putting air into a tubeless MTB tire and blowing it off the rim. I have been to a doctor & ENT and both say my ear drum is in fine no holes and is normal.

I did have Inflammation in the right ear after two weeks bur that has cleared up. I also had a fullness in my right ear but that seems to have gone in the past two weeks. I also have distortion in the right ear that has improved but the in train stations in NYC I have to wear ear plugs plus sometimes my voice and others still cause distortion in my right ear.

That has improved in the past 3 weeks but seems to be in a holding pattern.

Today both ears are buzzing that i can notice even with the radio on low volume. Yesterday the ringing was much less while the prevoius two days were the same as today. Today is Sunday and last Monday was my best day so far.

But I seem to be having more bad days that good lately which is making my sleep terrible. I have been taking a lot of natural stuff to assist plus some over the counter sleeping aids to sleep. I am also trying Ginko, Q10, B vitamins, MSM drops along with colloidal silver ( which helped with my ear drum Inflammation ).

This is a work mans comp case now so I seeing another ENT at the NYC ear & eye hospital in about 2 weeks. This is for a hearing test. The last ENT doctor said there is no magic bullet which under my reading so far that is the truth.

The real challenge I am having is that I am driving my wife nuts (can't blame her) she has been great as she works at an excellent health food store so she has been getting stuff for me. I am beginning to think this will take more than 6 months to get better if not longer...

But lately I have been getting very negative thinking this will never go away. I have not abused my ears in the past wear ear covers when needed and don't listen to loud music , this was just an accident but it seems like my life has changed... Is there any advice on how to sleep while not focusing on the ringing. The only way I can reduce the ringing at night is a couple glasses of wine...

This is my first time with tinnitus and I am 59 years old in good health no meds of any kind...

Hi DMC,
Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
Playing natural sounds set below your tinnitus through the night will help your brain seak out the lower sound you have chosen and help your brains natural filter develop to not focus on your tinnitus and will help in the day over time.
Pillow speakers or free standing unit works best and not ear plugs for them many hours....

Melatonin can help sleep or somthing stronger like a low antidepresant for sleep well below the theraputic dose for depression.
Sleeping tablets short term.
Lavender on your pillow
...lots of love glynis

Hi Glynis,

Thank you I will try the white noise through our clock radio tonight. What questions should I as my ENT for the next visit. Have had some success with Essential oils like Basil and others too...

Hi there,

I made a big mistake of letting a customer in a bike shop use the air hose and blow his tubeless MTB tire off the rim sounded like an explosion. I have popped tires off the rim myself but nothing like this. And he was over his T in 4 weeks...

I am in 4.5 months and it has been the same for about the last 2 months better than the first month. We also moved from Brooklyn to the Bronx bought a house. My commute now is hell 3 hours total with the shop where it happened & 2 hours with the other shop. i am working 6 days a week so I don't have much time to myself but need the money for house renovations. On my day off I always have a good day. On my work days I have to take the MTA train where I have worn ear plugs, 3M work 30db head cover & more recently Bose knockout head phones listening to low level masking sounds. If I get on the train with little T my T 95% of the time is hell by the end of the trip on the train. So I on the 6 days I work 2 might be good 3 OK and 1 very bad day. Coming home my ears are generally high T. So at the moment I am going to the doctor in a few weeks to get help with sleep aids.

Have been to the ENT and have done a hearing test. No damage and hearing is above normal for my age 59...

Well that is good news and I did have a slightly red R ear drum after two weeks continued with collidal silver and 2 weeks later the doctor said your ear drums are excellent no holes or bursting. Say an ear specialist in the Bronx last week and my ears are good. They all say this can go away it takes time for the ears to heal. I wear ear protection when needed at work, way more care full mow.
I find it is consuming me all I think about as I have always been care full and never had T&H before.
A doctor at the Bronx hospital said it takes up to a year for ears to heal...

Thinking of cutting back to 4 days but money will be tight. But I would have 3 days off in a row...

BTW I am taking lots of natural supplements some work some do like MG & Cal. Started enzymes yesterday the Wobenzym N Systemic Enzymes which I read are good as I seem to have a lot of mucus on my right side the ear that has both T & H... Worth a try read it won't work for noise trauma...

Welcome to the forum. You and I have the same thing, both T & H at the same time. I tell you, it was a horror show initially for me. I suffered relentless anxiety and panic attacks being that I had prior problem with anxiety and panic disorder before T & H arrived. So life was bleak and desperate and I never thought I would recover. But never say never. Today I live a normal, productive and absolutely enjoyable life. I posted my success story like others did, sharing some helpful strategies that have helped turn me around. If you like to check that out, here is the link to my story.

For sleep med from doctor, many members find Remeron helpful. But if you want to try natural stuffs first, you can try Melatonin. Also here is a site with a list of natural herbal products which can help insomnia. Take good care. God bless.
