Noise trauma
Hi everyone,

To introduce myself, I got T almost a week ago from a friend screaming in my ear from excitement to see me when she hugged me. It sounds a bit like an old dial up modem with a couple of tones in my right ear.

I've made a doctors appointment for this weekend, and in the meantime am trying to be optimistic that it will just go away. While also trying to mentally prepare myself that this might be permanent/long term. I asked my facebook friends for advice and while some had it and it went away, a surprising number have had it super long term; 15-40 years, after one off incidents.

Needless to say, my friend feels terrible. She's had tinnitus for nearly 16 years herself due to loud music concerts when she was a teenager! Still pretty frustrating for me though.

Thanks for this forum, it's helpful to read what everyone is going through and how supportive everyone is!

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the good comment about us in the forum. It shows that you tend to focus on the positive side of things as there are also those who complain about the forum in reading others' suffering as a negative for them. Read up the success stories to help you remain hopefully that things will improve. Try to keep a positive and calm stance as much as possible as this will prevent the limbic nerve system from taking over to turn us into 'fight or flight' mode of functioning which then will amplify T and its sensation to alert us of its 'danger'. Try to do masking if it bothers you but don't use loud volume nor use earbuds for long. Take good care. God bless.

That's good, it can make a great difference. And you are right to believe it can just go away as fast as it arrived.
When you are convinced that it will stay, your brain is more likely to consider it a long term host.

It really could be a temporary situation for you. Good you made a doctor's appointment just to be checked out.

That sucks mangomaz, but less than a week is very short so hopefully it will go. Your Facebook friends who had it go away- how long did gheg have it for?
