Tinnitus Only in 1 Ear

Hi, I started with tinnitus about 6 month ago. It's only ever been in my right ear. I visited my GP when I first started and got absolutely no help/advice or anything was just told it's something I had to live with. It seems to be getting louder later I just have a humming noise and my right gland is swollen. Any ideas? I know I may have to go back to the GP but they really put me off going they never do anything when I've been previously about other things.
