Hi, I just wonder if anyone knows of any research that shows any correlation between the volume of the tinnitus and the amount of hearing loss. Thank you.

What I've read so far is that we haven't proved any correlation scientifically. I don't remember where I read it, but I generally read serious studies.
We already know of many cases where there is tinnitus but "no hearing loss", also cases of no tinnitus with hearing loss (mild/moderate/severe/profound), so at the very least we know if there was some correlation, it's not very strong.

No I don't think so , at least thats the case for me. I have a mild loss at 3 and 4khz in my right ear. I only have t in that ear and it is mild, yet i have read reports from people here with no loss and they describe there t as being worse than mine.

For people that the cause of tinnitus is hearing loss I would say yes.

No, nothing actually proving any correlation. I recall reading one study suggesting there is a coloration and then reading another study showing an inverse coloration (mild hearing loss being correlated to louder tinnitus). Neither study was very conclusive and both had very small sample sizes from what I recall. Suffice to say I don't think there is any correlation between tinnitus loudness and the severity of hearing loss.

There is a correlation between tinnitus and hearing loss, in that most people with tinnitus will show some amount of hearing loss even if it is "hidden hearing loss" and is undetectable on a standard audiogram, but the severity of tinnitus does not seem to be related to the severity of hearing loss.

That being said, it's much harder to mask or distract from the sound if you have severe hearing loss.
