- Flying With Head-Cold, TMJ, Unknowns?
Hi,
I suffer from SBUTT (Sudden Brief Unilateral Tapering Tinnitus). I sometimes get SBUTT a few times a week, sometimes not at all for weeks and sometimes not at all for years. I suffer from TMJ, and ever since I had a rather awful TMJ attack in which I yawned a bit too wide, my ears tend to get some lingering Tinnitus after an SBUTT (sometimes, not always). I didn't usually have constant ringing in my ears till recently, now having suffered with it for four days. It tends to go away after I sleep but quickly comes back.
The tinnitus is usually only in my left ear, however sometimes it moves to my right ear and back.
I don't suffer from vertigo I don't think.
I don't get dizzy from the attacks, I only tend to get dizzy when I focus on the fact that I could get dizzy(I suffer from anxiety).
My hearing seems to be fine, it doesn't feel off or worse. There is a little congestion in my opposing ear for a long while, not sure if that's attributed to my TMJ.
I'm terrified I might have Meniere's though I suspect it might be my TMJ.
Has anyone experienced this or have any insight? I'm off to an ENT specialist some time in the coming months, still awaiting an appointment.
Sincerely,
Jayden
Edit, I should also note the pressure only made itself known after flying with a cold last year. Ever since, when I swallow I can hear my eustachian tubes open and close. Also when I turn my head to the left, my tinnitus tends to move to my right ear and if I face forward or look right, it goes to my left ear. Very odd.
