Hello

I have a small business that requires me to take 2 hours of subway ride. But I'm very afraid of this one.
I don't use earplugs at all and I have tried to take 40 minutes of subway ride without earplugs and the result was not very favourable; I had a temporary ear fullness and a wind or hissing noise on my left ear. It really was just a temporary and I'm absolutely fine now but I don't know what to make of this one...

Should I brave it out or buy a small headphone and wear it while I'm in the subway? What do you think?

I really don't like that horrible noises when you accidentally touch them.
In that case, you need to know that this is a problem for earmuffs (i.e., X5A, X4A, etc) too. Having said this, usually it is possible to avoid anything touching the earmuffs and plugs while one is wearing them.

I think that you would be safer if you have ear protection than if you don't.

If you search this site, you will see that a small minority of people had developed T spikes after wearing noise-cancelling headphones. It is difficult to figure out the reason for this, as noise-cancelling headphones cancel out sound waves. Personally, just to be sure that I am safe, I insert the most comfortable earplugs I have about half a centimeter (one quarter of an inch) into my ear canal, and wear noise-cancelling headphones over that. This way I know that the headphones can reduce the noise around me in a safe manner.

Use earmuffs.
