Would you rather have AIDS or tinnitus?
Would you rather have both your legs cut off or have tinnitus?
Would you rather be blind or have tinnitus?
Would you rather be completely deaf or have tinnitus?
Would you rather be in prison for the rest of your life or be free with tinnitus?
Would you rather be morbidly obese (400 lbs or more) or have tinnitus?
Would you rather have all your loved ones die or have tinnitus?
Would you rather live on a deserted island with only coconuts and bugs to eat or have tinnitus?
Would you rather be a prisoner of war or have tinnitus?
Would you rather have your hand put into a blender or have tinnitus?

Things I think about these days, unfortunately. What do you think?

I'm very sorry for your suffering...

To answer the either or game I have to say I'd pick tinnitus in almost all cases if not all...maybe 400lbs would not be thaaat bad because one can always get thin again...but if it only counts like be and stay that obese then tinnitus is better...

I guess i would decide and take tinnitus in all cases... with occasional breaks on the island with those coconuts maybe

I'm assuming you mean loud and debilitating tinnitus of course.
If that is the case, then I would take anything on the list, except for the loved ones to die... I would sooner just kill myself instead.
I would also be hesitant to go blind...jury is still out on that one.

I'm fortunate that my loud debilitating tinnitus is slowly fading (static hiss now)...but when I was at that point I would trade with anyone to have some peace and silence.

Don't ever wish for such things. Trust me, count your blessings. You DO NOT, want to go through what you have listed. Tinnitus can be managed, many of those elements listed above CANNOT.... Those elements listed above are too extreme and no one in their right mind would want those....

completely deaf people can have tinnitus and a general rule is that the more deafness the louder the tinnitus is.

I am worried that if I answer these questions, I will increase my chance of ending up with one of those things AND my T...

It's not that I want those things, those are the things I think would be worse than my tinnitus. So it's dark I know. Tinnitus makes me feel like an alien in my own skin.

Same here! Not that I'm superstitious, but it's Friday the 13th. No need to press our luck.

And I have already experienced blindness. Have to say that I do not recommend it.

I am glad that it ended up being temporary!

I am concerned about Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Now I try to always wear sunglasses in order to protect my eyes from the UV radiation.

Honestly, I'd take tinnitus over all of these except for being morbidly obese, because I expect a treatment soon. If I knew there wouldn't be a treatment ever, then sure I'd take:
3
4
5
6
7
8

Over tinnitus.

Macular degeneration is awful. There are two kinds (dry and wet), and I've had family members with both kinds. One kind is far worse (I can't remember which one), it can be pretty devastating to lose your sight.

One kind is far worse
It is the wet one. I took the 23andme test, and discovered (after uploading my raw DNA to promethease.com) that I have a bunch of genes that predispose me to it. People with one gene have a 30 times higher chance of getting it, people with another have an 8 times higher chance of getting it, etc. I am glad that I took the test and found out about this. I used to never wear sunglasses. I was able to change this bad habit. I am also making sure to eat all of the foods that contain the nutrients that seem to reduce one's chances of getting that disease.

My grandma is in her 90s. I got her to take the 23andme test (and then used promethease). She has a lot more beneficial mutations (and fewer bad mutations) than me, my mom, and my aunt. So this is consistent with promethease results being, in fact, informative.

What do you think?

I actually paid a surgeon in Florida about 10 or 11 years ago for a consultation for this very thing....I was that desperate. I remember him telling me he could do the surgery but that deaf people can also have tinnitus and, because they are deaf, they cannot use maskers to help them cope.

That said, if I had a choice to be completely deaf without tinnitus, I'd have the surgery tomorrow :(

That's great news. Did you do anything special that you feel might have helped it?

Yes I use lot of residual inhibition to train the neurons so they get used to flowing the right way (especially at night time) and I'm getting treated for Lyme, which could be one of the causes of my tinnitus aside from noise exposure.

@Wolfears I'm so glad your loud tinnitus is fading. How long did it take to see improvements!? I hope one day you are writing a success story!

Over all took me about 6 months to about 80% recovery.
I'm still not happy, because even mild to moderate tinnitus is like having a time bomb strapped to my body, which can go off at any time..
I'm aiming to get rid of this evil cock*ucker for good.

I'd rather do the best I can with whatever I have knowing that I'm going to have bad moments and not dwell on the negative knowing that it will cross my mind.

to be fair most of the thing you are mentionning are permanent predicament, tinnitus can go away...at least you have that hope

It can either go away, lessen in intensity and we can manage/adapt/cope and possibly habituate to it. It just takes time, patience, support and a game plan to making it work...

Then again, OP is writing this post and listing those things out of frustrations. All of us have been there and at times it is understandable...
