    My tinnitus is getting worse so I want to give up mirt in case it helps. I've been taking 3.75 mg for 2 years, sometimes I took 7.5 mg. How should I stop taking the drug to avoid withdrawal?

    I think you have to cut the pills, but to keep weaning, probably have to mix with water and use a syringe with measurements to dispense tapered amount. I would search up on it.

    I understand there is such a thing as a compounding pharmacy that can do custom amounts. However that might require the intervention of your doctor.

    Typically you can safely start tapering at 9/10th the original dose and keep reducing 1/10th every two weeks and see how you do. At such a low dose as 3.75 like you're in, I wouldn't worry too much about withdrawal syndrome if done like this.

    Low dose 7-15mg, maybe 30mg, of Mirtazapine can help with insomnia rather than depression. A lot of people report it increases appetite and gain weight. Trazodone is another AD that is often prescribed off label at a lower dose of 50-100mg for insomnia.

    I took Trazodone 50 mg for about 6 months, then switched to an OTC sleep aid.

    @RunningMan The problem for me is almost all these drugs are considered ototoxic and that scares me to death.

    You said that mirtazapine helped you with the insomnia but I'm already on Zoloft (US name) and it hasn't had a chance to kick in yet. Should I try that after if this doesn't help? I'm desperate for sleep.

    Zolof tends to take longer to work as anti depressant and has more disturbing side effects. I would switch to mirtazapine, definitely. You can also take both at the same time, mirt can be mixed with ssris
