    Hearing Aids

That is actually one of the ways that hearing aids helps tinnitus with people who have loss. For people like me, with no loss, it wasn't a solution, but my hearing aids are still extremely effective, useful maskers. I still hear the hiss (unlike the previous poster) but I often tune it out, just...

    Tinnitus Masking: In-Ear Maskers

An update on this thread regarding hearing aids/in-ear maskers: I had originally considered getting a pair when I had a spike at the end of 2013 and then decided against it (partially because I was having a hard time understanding my insurance coverage for medical devices, etc). I went to an...

    Hearing Aids

First off... HELLO PEOPLE! I have not been around for a while but I'm back! (New job, less free time.) I have no hearing loss at all according to the audiogram I had in Feb, but my tinnitus recently spiked after several months where I had habituated, and seeing as my insurance covers a...

Advice on masker vs aid when there is no hearing loss: phonak vs GHI

Hi everyone, I have tinnitus with no hearing loss. I'm looking into getting a masker and have the following options: General Hearing maskers for $1600-2k/pair, or Phonek entry-level aids for $1650/pair (after insurance) I don't know much about either company or their devices so I'm wondering...

Hyperacusis on 20/20 TV In US

Unfortunately, as with all things in life, we must make judgements based on the information presented. We can adjust these judgements as we are presented with new information, but reserving judgment for an indefinite period of time because all facts may not have been given makes little sense.

Hyperacusis on 20/20 TV In US

I appreciated that that video brings h to people's attention, but I feel like the main two subjects are doing exactly what doctors counsel not to do... mainly in terms of over-protection leading to ongoing or increasing sensitivity. Also, their rationale for living in a loud city is spurious at...

    The Nature of Habituation

I know that some people with anxiety disorders do worst case scenarios to help: "well, at least I don't XXX". Depending on how your mind works, that can be useful or awful. *hug*

    The Nature of Habituation

I think it's fairly insulting to equate people who can see their noses with Pinocchio and de Bererac.

    The Nature of Habituation

The fact that it's constantly in my vision and yet I don't actively notice it.

Wow, I have that face sensitivity issue as well! I'll be watching this thread with interest.

    The Nature of Habituation

I think the nose analogy (as in, you always see it but seeing it rarely bothers you) is better than pants. After all, if our pants are really bothering us, we can take them off.

    Holy Cow, Today Was Bad

Ever since I made a follow-up with my audiologist to talk about maskers, I was wondering if I was overestimating my need for them. After all, I'm a very happy person in general, and my tinnitus hasn't caused me any depression or more than middling anxiety (I have issues with that already ;) )...

    Just Came From Audiology...

She actually quoted me the study. There is no clinical evidence because such a low number of people had positive responses that it wouldn't meet the standards for "clinical evidence". So, in the case of taking those supplements (which are inexpensive), it's okay to hope you're in the 10% for the...
