I developed Tinnitus after taking Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg medication prescribed for swelled ankles. I didn't find out that this was the cause until almost 5 years later.

I stopped taking the Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg, because it wasn't doing what it was supposed to do and I don't really like taking pills. The Tinnitus stopped a few months after that, fast forward almost 5 years and I was again prescribed another diuretic along with high blood pressure or (HBP) medication to control it. My Tinnitus came back, I stopped taking the medication and the Tinnitus stopped again. I called the Dr to ask when was it that I had been prescribed the diuretic the first time and sure enough it coincided with the time frame when I got Tinnitus. I went to the internet to research the side effects of diuretic medication, specifically Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg, and sure enough I found a forum where a gentlemen said that he too had developed Tinnitus after taking the same medication and the Mayo Clinic website also mentions that diuretics can cause Tinnitus. Thank God that mine stopped early, because I would have gone crazy by now.

I mentioned that I don't like taking pills, this is the reason why. They might fix whatever is ailing you but the chances of you developing something that you never had are just as great, that is just my opinion.
