  • My T is as loud as ever, but the main obstacle to habituation was the reactivity, and that's gone now.
Playing Metal Gear Rising with sound on, now. 2022 me could *never*.

That's great to hear man, it took me a while to really comfortably play video games again too with distortions, but eventually we recover to a point where we can handle it again.

Let alone a slice-and-dice with a blaring heavy metal soundtrack.
@Cory Hey Cory, I see that you have/had hyperacusis. How are your symptoms nowadays? Hope you have experienced improvement. Thanks.
    GG_Ear
@Cory_ Well I'm glad you are not in pain even if you have to be more cautious from now on with sounds. Do you wear plugs all the time? Or just in public?
    Cory_
Just in public. At home I wear earmuffs (just casual earmuffs, not Peltors) because the cooling of my PC is pretty annoying.
    GG_Ear
@Cory_ OK. I hope to never have to wear ear protection again, only in very loud situations like above 80db.... I cannot stand wearing earplugs and talking to people because it causes a loud whistle in my right ear. Plus eating and walking around with earplugs is abosolutely intolerable!(sound of footsteps and sound of eating...all so loud and cause whistle in my ear)....
Allowed myself to be dragged to the theatre and now I'm in the beginning of a spike. Fucking hell I wish I wasn't so spineless.
    BrOKeN_1
Don't beat yourself up. You'll get through this spike. Was it at least a good movie?
    Cory_
They won't be dragon me back any time soon.

Gotta tell those people nicely to f off
Tinnitus is trending downwards. Noise tolerance is still tissue paper.
    Mal25
Did u ever regain noise tolerance? Mines got bad then better then worse after raising my voice and listening to music.
    Cory_
The first time, yes. This time, not yet.

DING DING DING went the BELL!
ZING ZING ZING went my HEARTSTRINGS!
as we started for HUNTINGTON DELL!
Did I just spike from taking my earplugs out for 15 minutes? Surely not. I hope I'm just freaking out.
    Cory_
I choose to believe I imagined it.
    MartinPihl
Did some loud noise occur while you had them out?
    Cory_
Just my computer whirring, my mouse clicking.
It's gotten kinda musical. I kinda like it. I guess it's just really, truly driving me insane.
    Cory_
There's an uncanny electric piano noodling around in my left ear.
I still shower, how can I be overprotecting?
    Stacken77
If you're showering (without protection) and not using protection all that much at home, you're (in my opinion) not "overprotecting" - you're just being sensible.
Zero sleep. Everything hurts. Not even getting out of bed today. I wish I had some good news.
Holy fucking hell. If this doesn't come back down I'm not long for this world.
    ZFire
It will. Do your best to remain calm and reduce stress.
    Travis Henry
    I feel you on that
    Cory_
It did, it did, it did. Sorry for talking like that, guys.
Sleep helps so much. Yesterday my head sounded like a fucking train crash, now there's just a little static with some bleeps and bloops.
    Cory_
If it stays like this (which it most certainly will not, spikes are a part of life and I accept that), I'll be very happy indeed. This is a valuable spot of hope.
fucking spike. I hate the wavering teakettle tone, the un-tuned TV one is alright but this one needs to GO
    Cory_
Update: It didn't "GO", per se, but over the next few days it sort of melted into the main body of my T and became a lot less obnoxious.
