Dealing with Tinnitus as a Musician/Audiophile

Musician and Audiophile. I’ve had tinnitus for 15 years. I’m 41 now. I still play, rehearse, record and attend quite a lot of concerts. I don’t believe my hearing deteriorates at any rate other than what’s normal. Tinnitus largely remained the same, I’d one jump in level around 2014, found that...

Any Rock Singers Who Use Custom Musician's Ear Plugs?

Unfortunately you are going to get lots of negativity here. People telling you to retire etc. Try not to freak out, you’re overthinking it- so the best advice I can give would be if it’s possible take a good long soundcheck to find something that works for you and to remember it’s generally...

Off you go, present them to me. Legitimate individual examples please. Nice! If I was in your position I'd go, but that's just me. You'll decide whether it's worth it or not. As for the venue responding on dB levels I'd say very unlikely as it really does differ from act to act. I've read...

I'll be crucified for this again I'm sure but I don't take any breaks. Once you're not standing near the stage I think you'll be ok. I've hit 11 concerts this year, probably do another 5 before the year is out. No increase. No Spikes. As a matter of interest, who are you going to see and what...

About to Become a Dad! Any Advice for a New Parent with Tinnitus?

Jesus this place is desperate. What an outlook. Now that's more like it. Having children makes it a million times easier. I actually found although I was getting a shorter sleep it was a better one, I was so tired at the start that I found when I hit the bed I was almost immediately asleep. I...

None of us do, but that statement applies for everything in life. This is it, not attending or playing is the end of the world for me. You know, I didn't take that initial decision lightly, I was out of action for a year. Absolutely miserable and went through exactly what most have gone...

Ok let’s back the truck up. The op has somatic Tinnitus. I believe in their specific case risk of worsening their condition through acoustic trauma is minimal providing they go to the show with protection. Their choice at the end of the day and only they can decide whether the risk is worth...

“You will be met with big backlash is all because off all the data available that says that loud sound..” Another grammatical error there chump. Now don’t talk to me about data, I’m a scientist, majored in chemistry and statistics. I’ve read tonnes of papers on Tinnitus, related studies...

“If you want to continue 'your' dismal of other accounts that is fine.” Classic, calls my intellect into question then writes the above. Looks like you need English lessons.

How old? Why do so many boomers have tinnitus? I’m almost 40, a lot of people have it because the education simply wasn’t there. 20 years ago you’d be hard pressed to find someone at a show with ear protection, bands also used to play with no restrictions on volume, a lethal combination really.

Look mate I didn’t come on to have a go or get personal with anyone but you pissed me off calling intellect into question. I never dismissed anyone else’s experiences just annoyed that people without the relevant experience being overly negative.
