MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Discussion & Experiences & Questions

I've been having chronic neck pain and did some research into it. There's some suggestions to get an upright MRI. Does anyone know if these machines are as loud as regular MRI machines? I heard open MRI's are supposed to produce less noise. The upright ones look kind of similar.

Since We're Supposed to Stop Using Headphones, Can You Play Music and Podcasts Through Hearing Aids?

I checked out some audio forums and this topic is discussed there as well. There's also been mentions of using open-back headphones being beneficial for tinnitus relief. For instance: "I would check your headphones c frequency response. Our ears are more sensitive and more susceptible to...

At first I thought the idea of using musician style ear plugs underneath headphones seemed kind of crazy but then 2 of you have already brought this idea up. Check it out: When my hyperacusis was bad, I used these earplugs called Earasers (tried a variety of similar concert plugs like EarPeace...

The problem is if I go back to work, I can't even listen to sound enrichment (assuming I'm strictly following your guidelines). I'd just have to soak in the sheer force of my tinnitus all day. Something I haven't had to do since my tinnitus started.

Sorry, I keep using the word masking because it's faster than typing sound enrichment every time. Yes, Michael Leigh, I've been following your 'sound enrichment' concept since the beginning of my tinnitus and I understand it clearly. I've also heard of this idea from other sources too. I do...

Since We're Supposed to Stop Using Headphones, Can You Play Music and Podcasts Through Hearing Aids?

Yes, thanks to everyone who's contributed info. I think this is an important topic because so many people get through their work day listening to podcasts and music and they do not have the privacy to be able to listen to things through a speaker. It's also important because hearing aids are...

First off, I'm definitely not as technically knowledgeable as you guys so I'm just posting questions here. I keep trying bring up that maybe there are other factors involved beyond just simply the distance issue. Many of these factors have been brought up in this thread. 1) For instance you've...

When your tinnitus increased in intensity, was it while you had headphones on listening to something? Also was there a particularly loud moment in what your were listening to when the tinnitus spiked? Michael, when you say white noise, are you referring to just one particular masking track or...

Don't open back headphones leak sounds to the point where other people around you can hear it? It might be an issue for the office if it does. Do you know if the sound leakage is bad if you're playing them at low volumes? Michael, do you have any more info about the idea of hearing aids...

Since We're Supposed to Stop Using Headphones, Can You Play Music and Podcasts Through Hearing Aids?

Yes, I've been planning to get the EHF audiogram. My tinnitus gets masked better by things like crickets, bird chirps, bells, and other higher pitched noises so it would make sense. However, some of those YouTube masking videos that target 'ultra high frequency tinnitus' seem a big excessive to...

Michael, to clarify, the audiologist's idea was not to amplify a masking sound. He said he wants to try a combination of amplification + masking sounds or maybe even one or the other. Just depends on what works. I've actually picked up on what you said about not fully masking and using the...

Since We're Supposed to Stop Using Headphones, Can You Play Music and Podcasts Through Hearing Aids?

Sounds like the jury's still out on whether playing music and podcasts is okay with hearing aids. I still need to get hearing aids though because I'll at the very least need to use the masking sounds throughout the day. Going to at least try and see if I can find an empty private room somewhere...

Since We're Supposed to Stop Using Headphones, Can You Play Music and Podcasts Through Hearing Aids?

    1) Have you tried to play music or podcasts through your hearing aids? Or has anyone else tried it? I'm curious if the sound quality difference is noticeable in the same way you say the white noise sounds different. Since developing hyperacusis, I myself have actually noticed quite a lot of...

So I hear the term 'noise induced tinnitus' brought up many times but I'm still not totally sure what it means. Here's what I think it means: It's someone whose tinnitus starts after a loud sound (like an explosion) but still has normal hearing according to an audiogram (therefore you can't...

Since We're Supposed to Stop Using Headphones, Can You Play Music and Podcasts Through Hearing Aids?

So I've been reading these forums for a bit now and it seems like the concept of not using headphones even at low volumes has been brought up many times. I've also read that hearing aids deliver sound in a different way that's safer for your ears. I think there's a major point that needs to be...
