Dealing with Loud Noises and Hearing Protection

While I do not doubt that accidental noise exposures can make tinnitus worse, I don’t believe that a few seconds at 88 dB will do any sort of permanent damage to you. I also believe that constantly hyper-protecting your ears can certainly result in increased central gain, hypersensitivity, and...

Can Blocking HCN2 Ion Channels Silence Tinnitus? RNID Funds Prof. McNaughton's Team to Find Out

Just a quick update on the Guanfacine. I’m on day 3 so far (2 mg), so it’s far too early to make any bold claims. That said, my Morse code reactive tinnitus appears to be (significantly) reduced, and it coincided with the first day of taking the Guanfacine. It may well be a placebo or just a...

An Exploratory Study of Bimodal Electro-Aural Stimulation Through the Ear Canals for Tinnitus

I was about to say the similarities in our respective stories are uncanny... but when you think about it, I guess not!

Hi @Cmspgran - I saw that your T is very much like mine - in the sense that it is reactive morse-code like beeps that ride on the back of other sounds (especially white noise type sounds for me). May I ask what background noise you use at night (if any)? I've tried sleeping in dead quiet, but my...

Can Blocking HCN2 Ion Channels Silence Tinnitus? RNID Funds Prof. McNaughton's Team to Find Out

That's interesting - my son is actually on Guanfacine for ADHD... I can certainly ask my doctor if it's worth a try.

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

Hi @Cmspgran! I think you may be the only person who has described one of their tinnitus tones as exactly what I experience. My left ear has morse code like beeps that ride on other sounds. So, especially things like white noise (including refrigerators, air conditioners), the beeps both react...

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

Hi @Ksharky13 - thanks so much for your detailed reply. I'm after both a sleep aid and something to help with anxiety - although probably more the latter than the former (they go hand in hand to some degree!). I am not on Duloxetine at the moment - I was on it shortly after my tinnitus first...

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

Hi folks. I noticed Mirtazapine is an anti-depressant that does not have tinnitus listed as a side effect (tinnitus is labeled as "frequency not reported") on drugs.com. Is Mirtazapine, therefore, widely regarded as "safe" for use by tinnitus sufferers, at least compared to other SSRI/SNRI...

    Cyclobenzaprine/Flexeril

Have you continued with Cyclobenzaprine and, if so, what’s your experience been? I ask because I’m looking for an (even off-label) anti-anxiety medication that has the lowest risk of exacerbating my tinnitus. My psych prescribed Duloxetine / Cymbalta, but from reading the threads on Tinnitus...

My Tinnitus Sounds Like It's Coming from the Location of Other External Noises...?!

I have a few constant tinnitus sounds, but one of them is a sort of mid-tone (c. 800 Hz) morse-code style tinnitus. It is reactive to volume (e.g., it gets louder in response to other sounds, such as inside a car or a white noise machine). However, and this is really odd - when there are...

Pulsed Radiofrequency of the Auriculotemporal Nerve to Reduce the Intensity of Tinnitus

Anyone know what this treatment entails - as in, how is this pulsed radiofrequency to this particular nerve done...? What is the supporting theory behind why this might help people? I’m unclear if this treatment relies on the sufferer having a particular type of tinnitus that is somehow...

    Tinnitus and Very Windy Beach

Thanks all. Actually, this morning, on waking, my tinnitus has settled back down to its more usual level. A significant relief!

    Tinnitus and Very Windy Beach

Thanks for replying, I appreciate it! When you say it’s possibly a temporary spike, do you mean it’s more likely to be permanent - even from just a few minutes in that sort of wind? Thanks again.

    Tinnitus and Very Windy Beach

I went to a very windy (25-30 mph) beach yesterday - big whitecaps on the water, etc. My watch decibel meter indicated the noise was 90+ dB with spikes at just over 100 dB when facing into the wind (and 80-85 dB when facing away from the wind). Due to the noise, I only stayed about 8 minutes...
