New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

I would say that if you have no hearing loss, you'll be blasting 40 dB. If your hearing loss is 20 dB, you'll be blasting 60 dB. If your hearing loss is 50 dB, you'll be blasting 90 dB. If your hearing loss is more than 50 dB, you'll still be blasting 90 dB, as it's the limit. But the graph...

Anyone Experiencing Changing Reactivity & Distortions?

Yep, I also have had the same kind of overtones/reactivity (except that it lasts more than 10 days, is bilateral, and is quite loud) recently. Most likely related to hyperacusis, yes.

Low Hum, Recently Triggered Again by COVID-19 Home Test

Oh yeah, I used hearing aids when I started investigating what could possibly go wrong with my hearing. Obviously, I've got a good old 30-35 dB dip in both ears, as many musicians do, but while hearing aids would help back in the days when I would only have one pure tone frequency, I can't bear...

Low Hum, Recently Triggered Again by COVID-19 Home Test

I'm 34 ;) Multiple tones came after I quit music and yes, the distortions are linked with my TTTS and Hyperacusis joining the party. Back when I was pushing it, I mainly had one mild tinnitus frequency in my left ear. I've now got 10-ish different sounds (that I handle fine emotionnally...

Low Hum, Recently Triggered Again by COVID-19 Home Test

I always used high quality hearing protection while playing live. I would mostly play acoustic/folk/songwriting stuff on stage, so not really having to deal with drums, etc. BUT I did all the recording/mixing/mastering myself when I would record albums, so I spent a lot of time with headphones...

    N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)

It's been getting constantly worse in the past 5 years so, yes. As I said, no impact whatsoever. It gets worse with or without colds so this benefit is not that big of a deal for me.

    N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)

Not related to tinnitus nor hyperacusis, but I never caught a cold when I was NAC, even when my wife and daughter were sick. Has to be related, because I'm easily catching flu symptoms. Benefits for tinnitus or hyperacusis after 6 months of taking 1200 mg daily: none.

    N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)

Just speaking of my own experience with NAC: no dependence whatsoever. I took it for 6 months straight, not skipping a dose, 1200 mg per day. I stopped cold turkey taking it: no withdrawal symptoms, nothing.

My New Reactive Tinnitus Is Making Me Miserable — I Hear Whistling on Top of Every Other Sound

From what I understand, this also works for all hyperacusis-related symptoms provided one doesn't face noise incidents. Not so clear, by the way, whether reactivity should be categorized (if that's of any importance) in tinnitus or hyperacusis. But yeah, TTTS, hyperacusis, sound reactivity...

My New Reactive Tinnitus Is Making Me Miserable — I Hear Whistling on Top of Every Other Sound

Careful with HBOT. You never know whether it's going to help or actually make it way worse. I wouldn't consider HBOT in your situation. As to intratympanic injections, well, one may consider these right after a severe noise trauma. But if I recall correctly, it should be done within 48 hours...

My New Reactive Tinnitus Is Making Me Miserable — I Hear Whistling on Top of Every Other Sound

Time and patience, that's it. You bought NAC, which is a good thing. You're already taking vitamin supplements. I believe you're doing all you can do make it better. I also have severe tinnitus + hyperacusis, but I must admit my reactive tinnitus/distortion is the most boring part, as every...

Not Coping with Reactive Tinnitus/Sound Sensitivity

Hearing distortions/dysacusis is a beast in itself, for sure. It is tiring to have no masking environment left and have your ears react to any sound. It is a lose/lose game: - In silence: tinnitus - In noise: another type of tinnitus/hearing distortion. It's most likely related to some form of...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

Tinnitus Talk represents a immensely huge minority of people living with tinnitus. Tinnitus is a condition that affects 16 million people in France (1 out of 4 person in my country). I let you do the count considering it's an international forum, compared to how many active members we have here...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

Hypnosis is not a treatment for tinnitus. There is no treatment for tinnitus on the market. Any hypnologist saying the contrary is a crook. We are not curing people, we are helping them in: 1) Finding their own unconscious ways of reprogramming dysfunctional patterns: PTSD, depression, anxiety...

2 Months In with Tinnitus — Some Advice for New (or Old) Sufferers

No, I stopped going to loud venues because even moderate sound environments give me spikes. I had to completely adapt to a new form of living: no concerts, no headphones, no bars, no clubs, minimum driving, etc.
