  • (1/2) Will I ever walk without worries on the street?
    Steph1710
I believe so. It took me a while, but I no longer worry. If I am going somewhere I believe will be noisy, I keep earplugs in, which means I definitely don't worry. Give it time my friend :) x

@Steph1710 whenever I left home and am exposed to volumes of daily life, I am always worried if the tinnitus has increased, the first thing I do when I get home is to check if it feels louder or if it has changed in volume.
I don't want to live like this. But what I most want is for my T not to increase.
I learned today of a person who has meniere with vertigo and severe hearing loss, but does not have tinnitus. How is it possible?
    Steph1710
They are incredibly unlucky and incredibly lucky at the same time.
The first step in finding our cure is to understand why person A has hearing loss and tinnitus and person B only has hearing loss.

@PortugalTheMan That's a really good starting point. I firmly believe genetics are a huge predisposition in developing tinnitus - it runs in my and many others families. But I believe most people can develop tinnitus if they suffer a powerful acoustic trauma that blows out a bigger part of hearing suddenly.

    @Stacken77
My father has a hearing loss, my grandfather hardly heard anything and didn't have tinnitus.
but I think I would go through seeing the genes or what is different between these people and us, and trying to change it so that we don't have tinnitus.

Does tinnitus have a logic? does there have to be? everything in life is math :)

I think it might be about 1) speed of onset of hearing loss. If you develop hearing loss over time you might have lower chances of getting T than with a rapid onset 2) stress during onset of hearing loss
When they tell you you might have meniere's having tinnitus doesn't seem so bad anymore.

I don't know if I have. I'm suffering in anticipation unfortunately I only have an exam on the 22nd.

Man, I would be quite surprised if you had Ménière's. It's rather rare. Plus, you do not have vertigo / dizziness. In Italian we say "non fasciarti la testa prima di averla rotta".
    Christiaan
It can indeed be quite manageable, like @aot says. Even more so, researchers in the Netherlands are currently working on a relatively new technique (clipping the endolymphatic duct) to effectively treat (maybe even fix) Ménière's disease
Didn't you find flunarizine helped you? What happened?
    PortugalTheMan
    Hello @Matchbox .
In May I started taking flunarizine and had relief from tinnitus, I started to have tinnitus that I only heard in quiet rooms.
In June I stopped taking it, and after 1 month I got loud tinnitus again.
    PortugalTheMan
I went back to taking flunalizine now and it got better again.
On Tuesday I had an appointment with my ENT to tell me how it was. And he asked to do an electrocochleogram (ECOG) because he suspects that I have meniere at a very early stage.
Hello everyone, yesterday my ENT asked to do an intratympanic electrocochleography? Has anyone done? Do I take risks?
I'm going to have to leave the forum for a while, I get panicky and come here looking for something to cure me and I start to cry.

@PortugalTheMan that is probably the best thing to do to help our condition. I enjoy talking to most of the people on the forum, but it's not always a positive place when you are hurting. Keep the faith, take good care of yourself, sending prayers for health and healing.
    Christiaan
I'm sorry to hear/read that @PortugalTheMan . FWIW, I'll miss your sharp contributions on TT and hope you'll find your way back to this forum after a well deserved rest.

si es absolutamente terrible esto, lidiando con un mal pico, cuidate amigo,un abrazo
Dr.Drew My loud tinnitus virtually resolved within 30 minutes of first dose. Other long hauler symptoms improved especially fog and fatigue.
I don't know I'm going through a spike, I don't even know how I got with it. But I'm back to negative thoughts and despair.
    Wrfortiscue
I agree with buttercake. We can't control tinnitus but we can control our reactions. I'm back and forth from not caring to it being devastating
    PortugalTheMan
    @buttercake and @Wrfortiscue many thanks.
right now I'm calmer. but yes now you can give suggestions for series I appreciate it

@PortugalTheMan I am into crime stuff: True Detective (all seasons), The Killing (the American remake, but the Danish one should be good as well), Mindhunter, Red Riding, The Sinner, Broadchurch, Karrpi. Others (not nec crime): Mr. Robot, Stranger Things, Sherlock, House, Lie to Me, Devs.
I spent the whole day in tears over this crap. I had a month accustomed to noise, this last 3 days must have increased and I'm sad.
Hey Today I do 5 months of T. From 1 - 4 month it was always getting louder. This last month it has dropped in volume for the first time.
    twa
    YAY! That sounds great!
    PortugalTheMan
I don't know if it's habituation or not. but there are days when I am silent, but if I cover my ears I hear the T.
    twa
    Sounds like an improvement!
When they tell you that it will get better, believe me it will. And that happens from one month to the next.
    Keith Handy
Months are indeed the SHORTEST unit of time you can go by with this stuff. Day-to-day means *nothing*.
    PortugalTheMan
If in our day-to-day we are careful with our ears, it will help our months! ;)
    Keith Handy
True - I meant day-to-day ups and downs, but day-to-day behaviors are of course a different story.
does anyone know why my T can get lower after eating? today it got so low that I'm even going to take a nap. ahahah
    Kriszti
Some problem with your jaw maybe? Just a guess though.
    kingsfan
Mine disappears while I'm eating and comes back immediately after I finish.
Hows it going man..just checking up on you
    PortugalTheMan
    @Sayeed Hi,
I've been going with an improvement. The stress caused by tinnitus has disappeared, and the tinnitus has reduced a little after four months.
Since it was 4 months always with the volume increasing, I see this month as a small progress.

The only thing I took was Flunarizine, it seems to have done something to my tinnitus.
What is it for you to get T lower? For me to be shorter, it's something that I couldn't mask my T now it does.
    kuromi
The way I often see it is that commonly, T gets quieter in volume or the sound changes to become more tolerable over time for most people. Mine went from ringing to soft quiet static.
