Retigabine (Trobalt, Potiga) — General Discussion

Jesus H Christ the hate the doctor is getting for not wanting to take a drug to treat a symptom for which it has no proven benefit. These anecdotal reports are optimistic but that's all they are. If retigabine is shown to reduce tinnitus symptoms significantly with no considerable side effects...

    Habituation Perspective?

I would consider myself "habituated" even though I hear my tinnitus often and loud. It's just when I do hear it - which, as I say, is often - I don't care. That's what habituation is to me. @Dr. Nagler Good to see you're still around, last I looked you were making noises about leaving for...

In Loving Memory of David Craig Muller

Sincere condolences. I think we've all been there at some point or another. I urge anyone with these feeling to seek professional help - it literally saved my life. @angie Doctors are not to blame for being unwilling to prescribe a drug off-label for a condition for which it has not been...

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

Just chipping in here to say I've been taking fluoxetine (prozac) at 20mg/day for the past month and a half and have already seen a great improvement in my mood. Tinnitus is the same as ever, which for me was a great relief as almost everything I read online indicated that fluoxetine could cause...

    What a disastrous week... :(

I was exposed to a clap right overhead during the storms about a month ago, T didn't spike at all - I mean this was really right overhead, the lightning flash was bright enough to completely blind me for half a sec. 120Db exposures are loud but momentary exposure is unlikely to do permanent damage.

    AM-101 TACTT1 Results Released

Yeah, I'm close to the Manchester centre, I'll try contacting them. @attheedgeofscience You say all the side effects are transitory, but in Fig. 2 of the results, we see some people in the high-dosage group had "significantly worse" T after 90 days, compared with none in the low-dose or...

More susceptible or just more concerned?

There is no reason to believe that if you have T or hearing damage, you are more susceptible than a "normal" person to further hearing damage.

    AM-101 TACTT1 Results Released

hey hey hey hey hold on something just got me excited I was pretty disappointed to find out that, as a 16 year old, I would be ineligable for further trials. But in the publication abstract for the phase II results on Auris' site, it says "Patients 248 patients aged 16 to 65 years." Sooo...

Autifony Therapeutics Phase I Study for AUT00063, for the Treatment of Hearing Loss and Tinnitus

This is true, but faster approval is generally reserved for drugs needed urgently... Don't get me wrong, I think a better T treatment *is* needed urgently, but perhaps whatever governing body oversees these things will not feel the same way - especially when they're looking at it in relation to...

    Sleeping on Your Tinnitus Ear

I have T in both ears. Sleeping on one side vs. the other causes no difference in T volumes the next day in either ear. I wouldn't worry about it.

Poll: When Do You Hear Your Tinnitus?

Depends on how shit a day I'm having! I practically never hear it whilst outside though, and I would almost never hear it in the shower. In most other indoor areas I would hear it all the time.

People with Tinnitus Process Emotions Differently from Their Peers, Researchers Report

Probably the TFI (Tinnitus Functional Index), a questionnaire used to gauge the severity of impact tinnitus has on a patient's life - tests like these are pretty well regarded and parralels exist for many psychiatric disorders, most notably depression.

New Drug (Furosemide) Could Cure Tinnitus, Say Scientists

Isn't furosemide potentially ototoxic? Just off the top of my head. Either way it's good to see researchers taking multiple avenues of approach towards T treatments.

It's Impossible to Avoid All Random Loud Noises

I have thought about it and, to me, it seems very unlikely that this is the case. My reasoning could be totally wrong, but here's how I see it. Noise-induced damage to inner ear hair cells is actual, physical damage. You can't see it with the naked eye, like you would see a bruise or a cut...
