Temporary Threshold Shift and Further Damage?

Has anyone here ever experienced a temporary threshold shift after getting tinnitus and as a result making it worse? I’m asking this, because 2 weeks ago at work I was checking out a delivery of steel platings with a coworker and he dropped a steel plate of about 25 pounds on another steel...

Possible Further Damage to My Ear — Someone Smashed a Clipboard on a Desk 2 Feet from My Ear

About 2 hours ago someone at work thought it was funny to try and startle me by smashing a clipboard on a desk about 2 feet from my right ear. I didn’t even really hear the sound, because I immediately got a full feeling in my ear and increased ringing. This went away after about 30 seconds and...

    Very Loud Firework Going Off

Thanks guys. My tinnitus has not spiked yet, so that’s a relief. It’s insane how loud some of these firework can get. I have no problems with normal firecrackers. They are loud, but not as crazy as illegal fireworks. Holy shit...

    Very Loud Firework Going Off

A few minutes ago I was in my living room and a very loud firework went off about 15 feet from my house. Not just a regular firecracker but one of those illegal “bombs”. Like this: (WATCH YOUR VOLUME!!!) Should I worry about hearing damage? These things could be around 150 to 160 dB. I have...

How Loud Is a 5-Feet Rectangular Steel Tube Dropping Onto a Concrete Floor?

A week ago at work someone dropped a 5-feet rectangular steel tube onto a concrete floor. I was standing about 20 feet away and it made a very loud, metallic, reverberating bang on impact. Like someone hitting a hammer on a steel beam with full force. It was weird how I could feel the sound...

Could I Have Permanently Damaged My Hearing Further?

So, basically yesterday at work I was exposed to a VERY loud noise. I was going outside to smoke a cigarette and I knew they were testing a high pressure waterblasting machine outside, but I could hear the that the engineers weren’t actually running the machine and it was just idling. The door...

    Loud Sudden Noises

Recently I’ve been contemplating about changing jobs. Everyday at work I’m exposed to loud sudden noises such as hammers hitting metal, power tools being used, people dropping heavy boxes, the horn on the forklift, etc. I’ve never had tinnitus spikes from anything other than these sounds. In my...

Likelihood of Noise-Induced Tinnitus Going Away?

Hi lillejulie, I’m now 9 months into my tinnitus and I’m still noticing improvements. Sometimes I can go out into my backyard in the morning and only just barely hear my tinnitus. I live in a rural area, so there’s very little environmental noise and it feels really good. My tinnitus builds up...

How did you get the new noise? Were you exposed to loud volumes somewhere? Is it constant or only occassionally? My spike has settled, but it was the longest one I’ve ever had. I thought it was going to be permanent, but after about 2 weeks it went down.

I’m glad to hear things have improved for you. If you continue to improve the good days will become the new bad days and you will experience even better good days. Quitting your job must have been hard. Did you manage to find anything new? Do you still have hyperacusis?

Tinnitus Spike for 6 Days After Fleeting Tinnitus

So, it is now day ten and my spike is still going strong. The weekend before this spike I could go out into my backyard in the morning and not hear my T and even inside it was barely noticeable. I thought I was a few months away from recovery and now it’s the complete opposite. Very frustrating.

    Door Slamming — 96 dB

Yes I did. I don’t remember exactly how long it took for the spike to go down. I estimate it must have been about a day or two, so hang in there!
