  • Hi there, I hope this finds you well. My apologies for bringing up this sensitive topic, but I just wanted to ask if you were friends with David Craig Muller and if he had Hyperacusis?
Hello @dan, how are you? From what I can see, you've been living with this for a long time as well.
I can relate to your story. So sorry for your suffering. It's stacking. Gets worse with every noise exposure. Like me the ear muffs must be torcher for you. If I put mine on it's deafening. I actually can not longer endure it. I get what you are saying in my other posts. The truth is mine is really bad and getting worse. I don't think I have it on me to close myself off to silence.

@dan the problem with me is that I cannot endure the life required of my condition. It's almost worse than the condition. I have a friend with T he installs tiles for a living. Uses a hand held tile grinder everyday. No hearing protection. How? He has T so loud I the am he takes Tylenol every am. He does not hear his T at work but it's blasting when his day is done.
    dan
@4Grace how does Tylenol help T? )) you are not suppose to mask your tinnitus...you run a fan or air purifier in the room and thats it. I dont believe your friend has very loud tinnitus.
    dan
Yes it is deafening when you put on the Peltors, but you have to get used to that...then when you take them off its like your T is 10x less lol
@dan How long have you had severe T and H? Do you think you've seen any improvement since your onset?
    dan
I never post a success story because of acoustic trauma setbacks...like the one im in right now again, but if I get better perhaps I should post one officially.

@dan the other day I pulled up to the front of Costco to load my car. Lots of snow. A car pulled up behind me. 3 feet away Honks their horn at me because they did not like that I stopped there … why do I refuse to accept I cannot go anywhere. I have many friends with this thing that do everything. Concerts, you name it. Mine is so different it's insane.

@dan - one thing I believe. If we isolate from life … it could be even worse. So many professionals have told me that … I don't know how to win. Now throat and ear pain have me at my ends.
    Dan,

Fromy understanding you had a nice period of time where your t was more stable before going to a wedding -- how long did it take your tinnitus to become more stable?

And do you have any advice on how to proceed from here? Audiologist gave me filtered musicians earplugs but right now I can't really even go outside without a seemingly permanent spike. Just... wait?
    dan
I guess around 2 years since onset for it to stabilize. But it was never reactive tinnitus, it was just gradually getting worse with noise exposures. It then got a little better and stabilized (still unmaskable heard everywhere), I could tolerate even Pomeraninan dog barking in a room...Im now worse off than ever, I must wear muffs outside or risk a car honk making me worse.

Thanks for responding. Yea I got royally screwed with withdrawing from Clonazepam so I'm hoping it will chill out with just resting my ears. I have severe hyperacusis from this too, as in any sounds are extremely painful, so I'm assuming as that calms down the reactiveness will too
Hi Dan, I noticed you are from Toronto. I'm from Toronto as well. Although I'm stuck in Southeast Asia for the moment until I get back.

I'm looking up different audiologists in Toronto for hyperacusis therapy. Do you have any recommendations or experience with any in the GTA?
Hey Dan, hope you're doing well. I saw that you had an acoustic trauma which worsened your tinnitus and made you prone to further increases from relatively ordinary noise. I've been experiencing that for 3 months following a trauma. Do you have any advice or insights to share for someone early on? Feels like my symptoms are spiraling out of control

It's a lot worse from just having dinner at home with a couple people last night. We were even good about keeping noise down. The tinnitus keeps stacking, does it ever settle back to baseline or up only?
    dan
Better not agitate it in the early stage.
    Theezy
Everything agitated it this is insane. Guess I gotta go complete silence now because even mild noise exposure is killing me
I love you brother. I am so sorry things went down hill for both of us. We shoulda ran to the woods and quiet while we still could.
    dan
Definitely brother. Had I known this would happen to me, could of sold our houses and moved to the woods....but I didn't know you nor could we predict how bad this shit can get.
Insane tinnitus following cell phone mishap, 1.5 days. Wanna die like . 12/10. high freq like 1000 hot needles, med tones louder.
last night woke up with "nice" tinnitus, but ruined it as usual in the evening - this shit always happens, will stay indoors 24/7
4pm Hit by some sort of klakson 0.5 sec x2 while walking in the park. T spiked 10/10 wish for death.
Hello Dan, in one of the earliervposts you mentioned that you had severe ear pain from hyperacusis and managed to bring that down "to a manageable level""within 1.5 years. How did you do that. Just silence? Thank you for your reply. Christian
    dan
    Yes, silence.
